Post Grooming a Shih Tzu

Ok I would like to show my dog (well she's not really born yet but never to early to learn) she is a shih tzu and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to groom her for a show like how to cut her hair and stuff like that.
I would also like to groom a corgi that we are soon getting so any information a shih tzu or corgi show grooming would be greatly used and welcomed.

By the way I'm new I put a post on the introduction board if you would like to read it.

Welcome Hannah

You will have a breed that I just love and my children had when they were
young. Getting a show coat on a shih tzu is no easy job but it is possible. If
your house is completely carpeted, I wouldn't even think of it because the
coat will break off once you get it to the length you want it. Here are some sites that might help you.

Also this gal by the name of Ena Lane showed Shih Tzu for a long time and
was an excellent groomer. http://mjmcompany.com/Basics2.htm

Ok put a little of this info in your other post but here goes

Start from the minute you get your pup - the ground rules you teach it now will last it for life
Never groom your pup on the floor or your lap get a steady table with a non slip surface - thiswill be your dogs grooming place (especially if you are going to show it will do it good to be used to a table)
Most important the dog shouldnt think its a game - never shout or smack your dog on the table it will only make it frightened but also never play with your dog on the table - grooming is serious business.
First get the pup used to standing on the table hold him up gently under his tummy and reward with treats when he stands quietly
You can then move on to gentle combing (i never use a brush on a young pup a comb is sufficient) if the puppy wriggles or does something you dont like just ignore - any attention you give at this stage will be a reward - simply hold the puppy in a stand untill it quietens down.
Remember where ever there is hair needs to be brushed so groin and armpits etc.
Always have a good routine - ie start at the back end and work up to the head - this way the pup will know what to expect - always end on a good note and reward when finished. If you are showing it may be useful to then train your pup to lay on the table so you can get to the hard to reach areas but i prefer to teach them to stand first they generaly feel safer that way.
Finaly if your pup growls or snaps while being groomed say NO firmly (dont smack froma dogs point of view thats aggressive and reactin to aggression that way can encourage it specialy with a dominant dog) and try and carry on - most pups snap because they want you to stop if you stop they will continue the behaviour because it gets a result - if you carry on they will soon realise it doesnt get them anywhere
Anyway thats just the basics for a pup really - but get it right when they are young and you cant go wrong!!
