    Shaving matted coat

My 19 month old Beardie has been suffering from the summer allergy itching and is quite sensitive to brushing, so much so that he will nip me at times. I have gotten behind on the brushing now because of this and find it almost impossible to get him brushed up well enough to bathe. Although it breaks our hearts, we are thinking of shaving him this time to get him back on track with a brushing regimen (and a routine that will eliminate the nipping behavior.

How do I go about this without getting carried away with hair removal?

I think it would be best to have a good groomer do this for you.

Agreeing with above. Find a groomer, they'll know what length is appropriate.
