Angry I think Tink is...

I can not believe this. I think Tink is....I dont want to say it..I think she is PrEgNat..How can I tell if she is. Her private area is swollen and her belly is kinda popped out. I'm really worried bc she is only about 8 months old. I had no idea that she was in heat. I dont know I'm going to the vet soon. Then I'm not sure what I'm going to do. -*Erin*-&~!Tink!~

How long has she been swollen? It generally takes a while before the belly 'shows' when pregnant. She might just be starting to go into heat, that can give the same signs as pregnancy.

Do you have any idea what dog could have gotten her pregnant? It can be dangerous for small dogs to deliver pups fathered by a larger dog. Have you talked to the vet as to how he/ she will test for pregnancy? It might be too early for an ultrasound but a urine or blood test detects pregnancy much earlier.

Good luck at the vet's, I hope she's not pregnant.

How long ago would the rat terrier have gotten to her? How do you know it was the rat terrier, and how do you know for sure they got together? Has she been/was she bleeding? If so, when did she start? When you say a long time, approx. how long? When you say I just now noticed it, what did you just notice?

This is very important, the timeline of events I mean. A smaller dog may show sooner than a larger one, but it is also possible that she has just started her season. It should have been quite obvious though, she probably would have started off by waving her a** around in your male dogs faces, or even tried mounting them, then, after about a week or so, they would have tried to do it to her. The swelling should have started immediately, and I would think you would have noticed that, and most b****** bleed while in heat, and I'm sure you would have noticed that. That is why I am leaning more towards her going into heat than a pregnancy.

Good luck, I hope she's not pregnant.

Shannon

I never saw her bleed. She has mounted other dogs and she has waved her *** around in other dogs faces. The rat terrier could have gotten her maybe 2 weeks ago. And I'm not sure she is pregnat. She has been swollen about a week.

So now you know she's in heat. So what are you planning now? Hopefully a spay is in her near future and I think you know all our reasons why we suggest it.

Quick lesson hey! Made you realize the consequence, lucky she is just comming into heat, gave you a scare I bet.
Count her days now, between day 12 up to day 18 she is most fertile.
On those days you will have every male in your neighbourhood trying to get to her, even jumping and climbing fences. So watch her carefully when you let her out to pee.
If you want to spey, you cannot now till after her season is completely over.
Give it 21 days or better still a month since the start of bleeding.
Or you can go to your vets now and ask for pills to put off this heat, but it must be done withing the first two days of bleeding.
