Grooming in the UK
I'm curious as to how many of you are groomers in the UK. I'm currently living in Canada, but I'm considering a move to somewhere in the UK in a couple years. I'm thinking about becoming a dog groomer and possibly doing it in my own home. What do prices look like, (can I assume dog groomers are in high demand, like they are over here), or any other tips you may have. Thanks.

I have to agree, my Partners mum has two dogs and once a month at least go off to our local groomers. The groomer picks them up and spends a whole day pampering the little angels. Not only do the dogs come back looking great but they also have a fun day out. Prices do vary around the area I live but the way I see it is you pay for what you get and why shouldnt our dogs have a pampering day just like us! lol Setting up this sort of business in the Uk would be a good idea. Have you any ideas where in the Uk you would move too??

I'm not entirely sure, as I still have to take a trip there either late this year, or early next year to do some scouting around. I'm thinking more northern England or Wales, where housing and land isn't quite as expensive as further south. Would you happen to know general prices around this area (basic small dog and basic large dog cuts)? Do you know home much your partner's mother paid for her dogs to be groomed?

all i will say is the cheaper the area the cheaper you will have to expect to be generally - we live in a well built up area and can charge more than some places as people are happy to pay (also we have to cover costs) we charge (just for an idea) St poodles £50 yorkies £26 Shihtzus £29 Spaniels £33

Hi again,
I do agree the prices vary but a lot of people I have spoke to around where I live about grooming say that you definitely get what you pay for around the area. Most people paying towards £50 for dog grooming including my partners mum. I don’t think this is just because the quality of the grooming – although this is great I think the additional services including the door to door pick up and drop of offered helps. I do like the idea of having your dog picked up in the morning and having a day of pampering itself. It’s a nice treat for them and I think this sort of business is much needed around where I live. Most groomers in the area require you to take you dog to them and wait. Although I wouldn’t mind this. Have you thought about looking at places like Derbyshire, England??? I am moving into Derbyshire in the next few weeks although just on the outskirts. Most of Derbyshire is extremely beautiful as you may know especially places like Belper – surrounded by the wonderful river gardens. Setting up a business round here would provide a great income. Plus house prices can also be reasonable, just like land. Well anyway hope everything works out for you. Amy

we dont do collection and delivery - just wasnt the call for it - but people drop there dogs off and can then go off for a couple of hours or if they really want to they can wait though we prefer them not to as it upsets the dog!! most people dont like to leave there dogs for longer than that - although there is always the exception - specially at christmas time you can find you get the dogs dumped on you all day while the owners go shopping - i wouldnt mind but they dont tell you they just dont collect the dogs when they should!!!! the poor dog is then waiting in a cage all day
