Rabies clinics

I thought this was awesome !!!

There is a vet hospital in the area that is holding rabies clinics in different small towns nearby, like the one I live close to.

Rabies here is rampant and they are doing what they can to help the situtation.

Get this---

Rabies shots - 12.50
Distemper- 25.00

CHEAP!!!!! I paid 45.00 for rabies shots last year for the dogs at the vet's office !!! too bad they are not due for three more years LOL!!!! I love a bargain. None of my animals are due .

Now this is something that is worth the bargain! Vaccine clinics

You can't cut corners with cheap vaccines.. it is what it is! As of this week, I met my 90 days and I get FREE vaccines. It's going to be great.

We only pay $12.50 here...at the regular vets..
Why are is the disease getting bad where you live? Is it coming from rodents or something? Hope I don't sound ignorant..but I have never been around the problem before..

Skunks, Raccoons, rodent type animals. It has alwasy been bad here but the skunk population has grown hugely in the last few years due to warm winters.

We only pay $7.50 for a rabies distemper combo. It's cheaper than the clinic which you give $10 for just the rabies. It appears everything is cheap in my town...

Actually rodents don't carry Rabies. They do carry the plaque though.

Rabies can be carried by skunks, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, bats (which are the leading cause of human rabies), and then domestic animals represent 10% of rabies population.

EDIT: (found this on the CDC website)

Small rodents (such as squirrels, rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, and chipmunks, ) and lagomorphs (such as rabbits and hares) are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to cause rabies among humans in the United States. Bites by these animals are usually not considered a risk of rabies unless the animal was sick or behaving in any unusual manner and rabies is widespread in your area. However, from 1985 through 1994, woodchucks accounted for 86% of the 368 cases of rabies among rodents reported to CDC. Woodchucks or groundhogs (Marmota monax) are the only rodents that may be frequently submitted to state health department because of a suspicion of rabies. In all cases involving rodents, the state or local health department should be consulted before a decision is made to initiate postexposure prophylaxis (PEP).

That is so great that they are doing something to help the problem. Poppy's rabies vaccination cost me around $85 but then again it isn't a requirement in the UK so that's probably why it's so expensive over here.
