How do they do it???

I have a short-haired dog that sheds. I have to shed her out once a week and if we didn't, there'd be hair in every direction. Now, her hair's short. How could someone possibly deal with something like .. aussie hair or something similar like a samoyed or something. Imagine all of that hair! For all of you long-haired shedding dogs, what's your secret? Because my dream dog is an australian shepherd.. but the hair is a turn off.

Diet makes a difference, the higher quality diet the less shedding, what do you feed your puppers?

My sh Beaucerons shed more then my LH Bernese Mtn dogs.

I used to have a Samoyed, and boy did she shed. Lots and lots of brushing as well as regular baths are the key.

Yeah- I just can't imagine how people would deal with that. Lol- I would just get so fed up with vacumming all the hair- and imagine how clogged the drain would be after a bath?

Hmm, diet- that's osmething I never heard. But isn't shedding a good thing- like.. getting rid of undercoat and winter coats so the summer isn't as bad?

I saw the hair in the drain after I bathed a guinea pig, I can't even imagine a dog that sheds that much. lol

i have a aussie cattle dog. the hair is not long but the shedding is ****. my truck the house. brush brush is all i can think of. the diet suggestion is a good one too. I have hardwood floors and no matter how clean we are you will see dog tumbleweeds during shedding time.

We have a rottie under a year old. he shed bad as well but it was over pretty quickly.

I wanted a nice pinto akita. but i know i could not handle the hair.lol jerry

you can try an undercoat rake (I hear the Furminator is fantabulous) and that should help. My dog is an Australian ShepherdXBorder Collie mix and he doesn't have a bad shedding problem. Well, I don't notice any hair on couches, but you'll find black hair (occationally in flat clumps) stuck to the carpets. I think that's mostly from him always rolling around and kind of scrubbing his shoulder/side into the ground (I have no other way to describe it, lol). I'm going to get a furminator because this is his first summer indoors and he's probably going to shed like mad.

Hmmm.. maybe tumbleweeds are better then short hair. I mean, if you think about it- if they're making tumbleweeds that's easier to vacume then trying to pick up the short hair that stuck imbetween carpet threads. But I still credit all you people with long-haired shedding dogs

you have to brush them very regularly to avoid matts. That helps TONS during shedding season! Plus (I read this) that a short haired dogs hair is harder to get off clothes and furniture than a longer hair. One pro to having a dog with long hair. It forms more like dust balls than just falling off where ever. I have no idea if this is true but that is what I read.
