Unhappy Rudy is hurt !! :(

Took Rudy and Jenna out for a run with the horses and we usually go for anywhere between 2-6 miles at a time. Today was no exception we went for about a 6 mile ride and the dogs followed. Rudy and Jenna live to go riding with us.

I had noticed Rudy had a silght limp for the last two days but he would usually walk it off, so I caulked it up to him being a little stiff, not hurt.

He was hurt. We got home and he was fine until he started to rest, I found him on the bed and kicked him off, he jumped down adn then I noticed he could not put weight on his front paw. He is severly lame, I FEEL HORRIBLE!!!! I had no idea he was hurt I just assumed he was feeling stiff , you know like when you do too much on one go ??? He would only be that way for a few minutes when we first got going then he was normal again.

His paw is twice the size it should be!!! I called the vet and he said give him an aspirin and ice it for tonight and then in the morning if he is worse bring him for x-rays. My poor BOY!!!!!!!! Last week it was Jenna and the mink and now this and the week before my basement flooded...... I feel cursed. Hubby is still away too.

Anyone have other ideas to add to help Rudy throughout the night? He is in a fair amount of pain right now. Please, anyone who can help let me know.

Poor boy... you should keep him off it. Even pee breaks should be on leash. If you have frozen peas, I would use that to wrap around the paw. If he will let you, elevate it slighly by putting a pillow under it.

Good Grief! You're having an awful time lately!! Poor Rudy--can you see any foreign body, cut, abcess...? Maybe you could soak it in warm epsom salts to see if that may help. Probably not much else to do right now other that ice, aspirin, and lots of kisses and maybe a treat!

I can't tell what he has done

His paw is very warm to the touch adn swelling more and more

I looked for an abcess, or entrance wound for a foreign object and can't find one. I have played with his paw to see if I can figure out where the pain is coming from, Rudy is tough and doesn't pull away. He lets me play with it !!!!!!!! Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't tell

Oh No!! Poor you! Ninka had a bad limp a few months ago and it wore off after a while, and Harry stepped in some glass and was limping for a few weeks just a short while ago, I had to soak it and do some first aid before taking him to the vet as it was bleeding really badly and he was limping...it was swollen half its size too! It scared me a lot cause Lady was annoying Harry at that time and he couldn't chase her away...he just laid still for ages every day and I had to walk him on really soft clay or mud and not grass or concrete cause his foot was raw and tender...

I wouldn't fool around too much. Your vet gave you sound advice...ice and aspirin.....he really will need x-rays. Some dogs are pretty stoic about pain, you say he had a slight limp for last few days, maybe a small bone chip, sprained toe? No use guessing, truth will out with with X-rays. You sure are going through a string of bad luck. Keep us posted and good luck.

Rudy is NO better this morning. I had to really coax him to get up and take his Thyroid meds and get him out for a pee before I go out to work. I am calling the vet this morning and coming back to get him and take him in. I am so concerned he fractured something. I feel so stupid for not thinking anything was wrong with him.

Dobes have a very high pain threrehold and I should know that!!!! I just wish I would have thought about it when he was only slightly limping. DUH!

Sorry to hear about Rudy, but dont beat yourself up about it. You are doing the best you can and are taking him to the vets. Dogs also do conceal things from us mere humans and there are not always immediate signs of problems.
Good luck at the vets.
Keep us up to date.
Be positive.
