Red face Painful Poop

My pom has just started yelping when he poops. We've only had him 1 1/2 years, but he has never done this with us. I am worried as to what is causing it. I can't see any abrasions around his ****hole, but he is obviously in pain when he squats. I don't know if he is constipated or what. I've pressed on his tummy - examined his hips - and he never even acted like he was in discomfort. He is active and is eating - but he yelps and cries every time he has to do number II. Help! Has anyone heard of this before. I am worried sick.

Have your vet check him. It could be diet (poop too hard) or internal problems (abrasions or growths).

Best to be safe.

You vet is your best bet. Your pup could have eaten something that didn't digest properly or also what Dax said. Hope everything is okay with your boy

Certainly have your vet examine him. if he poops regularly, he is probably not constipated. Is the poop "hard" or is soft/runny. If it is softish, it could be that his a*nal glands are not being properly evacuated. If so, your vet will be able to do this and will probably recommend a change in diet to a food with more fiber. Good luck, hope he feels better soon!
