Toy poodles don't shed but do require some grooming. Just about any small terrier would be energetic and not need groomed much but will probably have some sheding.

my frnd has a wire fox terrier named Mandy. she doesnt shed, she's very energetic and friendly. the only time she needs to be groomed is like if she rolled in mud. this seems to be the perfect dog for ur frnd, but the only problem is that she's 24pounds, not 10.

Pugs, they are lovely little dogs - as long as you treat them like a proper dog not a silly little lap dog. The ones you see in the show ring dont look very energetic because they feed them up til they are about twice their ideal healthy body weight, but as long as you keep them to a normal weight they are quite lively little things.

Minimal shedding and under 10 lbs : Maltese, Bic hon Frise, Toy Poodle, Havanese.... I would say the closest to the criterea that you've established is the poodle. Expecially if size is a real issue.

Energetic and under 10 lbs : Yorkies, Silkies.

Only thing is i would say "Minimal Shedding" and "Minimal Grooming" are contradictory terms. All dogs that dont shed will need more brushing than most others to keep the long hair untangled and mat free.

Toy poodles are pretty awesome. That's prolly the right dog for your friend. I was going to say pugs but they shed more than labs and german shepherds combined, lol. Their one downfall

I would say a shih tzu might be great! They do require alot of grooming if you intend to make their coat grow long but I cut my shih tzu's hair every 3-4 months to a puppy cut so not much fuss there. They also dont shed so much. Their average weight I beleive is around 14-16lbs though mine right now is just 9lbs at 10months old.

Lou3 is right...pugs are just so adorable! But they do shed ALOT!!! And they can get pretty overweight if you dont watch them. I believe the average weight of a pug is 18lbs but mine's already 24lbs at 7months old!!! Grrr!

Hope your friend finds the best breed for her/him.

I think that a Yorkshire Terrier would be the perfect dog for your friend. They are small, but can be very playful and energetic. I, personally, love Chihuahuas, which might also be a good breed choice for your friend. They are small, energetic, and require almost no grooming, except for brushing.
