Do you know what their breeder/last owner was feeding them? Is there any way you could find out?

If you are going to feed kibble, the BEST rule of thimb to follow is ---- you pay for what you get. The more expensive a food is the better quality it is.

I personally prefer a raw diet, but if you are thinking of kibble, some of the better brands include: Innova (Innova EVO is awesome), Solid Gold (Solid Gold Barking at The Moon is best), Nature's Variety (Raw Instincts is really good), Go! Natural, Foundations, Healthwise, California Natural, Pinnacle, etc. To find the best foods, go to smaller pet supply stores rather than large pet store chains. Don't rely on commercials to tell you what foods are best -- they are always wrong (Iams, Eukanuba, Pedigree, Purina, etc -- not so great). Good luck!
