Couple Problems with Tony
Well i have a pitbull/boxer mix. And he is roughly 5-6 Months old. Now we bathe him once a week. Feed him a pet store recommended food. And he has this skin condition.
In certain places in his fur you can see dark spots and hes always scratching at them. I thought he might of had fleas and was biting at them but after buying him over 3 different fleas shampoos it wasnt that. I then got a closer look at the fur and the areas in question have a scab like surface to them and are very hard. Its on his back legs, under his "armpits" as well as on his back where his tail meets his rear end(this would be the worst spot since its the easiest for him to irritiate). Now i would like to know if a trip to the vet is required or are there other just as effetive alterantives for his condition(special meds and shampoos) and such. |

He's probably going to need special shampoos to keep his skin healthy, but your vet should be the one to diagnose what exactly he needs. In the meantime, try at least a good oatmeal shampoo to get some moisture back into his skin.

What type of shampoo do you use? Your shampoo should be detergent and soap free because you bathe so often. Also what type of food did the pet store recommend? Sometimes their recommendation isn't the greatest. I would look at food allergies and bathing too often as your probable causes.

Pit Bulls and Boxers are prone to Demodex mange I think a visit to the vet for a skin scrape is in order.
