Large Red Mass in my 10yr Old Australian Lab's Anus

For the last several days now intermittentley (I think I spelled that right) my dog would blead from his behind after having a bowel movement. This morning, I noticed my dog straining to have a bowel mobement, but there was no blood this time.

I looked under his tale, and there was a large red mass (about the same size and shape as a medium sized avacado pit) in his anus. It was no veinious or bulgy like you would expect hemroids to look, but rather seemed like a single mass. It was red with a tinge of dark brownish green towards the tip.

Any thoughs or ideas on what it might be? Through googling and some heave research I have come across the term "rectal prolapse" but am not convinced this is what it is.

I love my dog (I rescued him from an animal shelter 2 years ago and cant imagine why anyone could have given him up in the first place) and wish I could wisk him right to the vet right away but unfortunately right now I am not in a financial place where I could afford to do that, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you everyone in advance.

I agree with Dax. A vet needs to evaluate it. Perhaps you could borrow the money from a friend for the initial visit or see if you could work out a payment plan with your vet. Some vets are very workable to a pmt plan.

Definately I agree with the other answers. A lump or growth that large needs a vet to examine. Especially if it has been bleeding. If it gets too big it could cause a blockage.

You might be able to work with your vet on a payment plan... it's worth a try. I'm sorry that we can't help you but at least the vet can.

Sounds like a cancerous mass/tumor.

You need a vet.

If you own a dog you need to take care of it even when you can't afford it. It is your responsibilty to get this dog looked after.

Sometimes you can call your local animal shelter, and they will help you locate a vet, that will take payments, but like everyone else has said, he needs the vet as soon as possible. Sounds really serious.
