A couple of pet peeves! Beware, I'm in a mood!
O.K. I need to vent! I haven't vented in a while so here goes:
1. I get so irritated when new people start off on the forum with a plea for help because their dog is dying due to fill-in-the-blank and Oh, God please help me!!! From their descriptions it sounds like the dog is on death's door. Then the more senior members go out of their way to diagnose symptoms, suggest some remedy that will get them through the night, or suggest immediate vet care. Then, the next day, someone writes a post asking how the dog is today, because the person doesn't bother to give us an update. Many times we get no answer back. We don't know if the dog lived or died. OR, we get an answer of "Oh, everything's fine now, thanks". The night before this dog is dying, now everything is o.k.? argh!!! I once pm'd with someone for two hours late into the night regarding a semi-emergency situation and never heard anything the next day or ever! 2. I am so tired of dog owner's saying, "Well, I can't afford a vet visit, so can you help me/tell me how to treat my dog?" Sometimes it's a simple thing and no big deal. But invariably, it's something the dog should definately go to the vet for. I'm really hearing this more and more and it's driving me nuts. Owners must except the responsibility for their dog's health at all times! They need to know where they can get emergency funds, if needed, or have worked out a plan pro-actively before a crisis hits. I realize that sometimes when you get a dog there is money to care for it, but then financial situations change. That's unfortunate, but it still does not release the owner from the responsibility of having a plan in place. If I knew I couldn't afford vet care for my dog, and couldn't get the funds anywhere, in the spirit of responsible dog ownership, I'd rehome it, at least temporarily. That's sounds harsh, I know. I know we're living in the real world and not in nirvana like this post looks like I expect. I don't expect anything to change from this post. I just wanted to get a couple of pet peeves off my chest. Done now. Last edited by Deb's Tiny Dogs; 05-22-2006 at 03:59 PM. |

This has been extremely annoying and frustrating for me for the longest time. Most vets around my neck of the woods allow for an account to be organized where you can pay off a hefty vet bill in due course, you can agree to a specific amount to be paid off weekly or fortnightly in a manner that most people would find easy to cope with without hardship but I have found that some people are financially well off but do not like to spend even the smallest amout of cash at the vet's to the detriment of their pet/s. I often see people buying no name dry dog food at the supermarkets and yet they are driving expensive cars and are dressed to the hilt, those kinds of people really raise my hackles, then you have your pensioners that wouldn't think twice in spending a fortune at the pockies and then when it comes to having their pet/s checked out by the vet they cry poor!!!!
I do share your frustration in people that appear in desperation and come on here asking advice and then disappear just as quickly. They're the sort of people that ask for advice hoping for a self made miracle cure and when they find that the majority of replies suggest they have their dog seen to by a vet make a quick exit because they have no intentions of going to the vet and they know that to come back means that they will be asked as to the outcome!!! |

A couple of pet peeves! Beware, I am in a mood!
Hi Debbie,
I agree with you totally,. When you take the responsibility of any pet on you have to allow for the expenses. My vet in Spain is excellent and if you have not got the cash he will trust you and wait until you have. His main concern is that the animal is being taken care of and a lot of people think that the Spanish are barbaric when it comes to animals but they are far from it. They adore their pets. OK they have the tradition of bullfighting but in UK they have foxhunting so each country has their own downfalls. I am pleased you are venting your anger in this way as it is relieving you of some stress. Take it out on the so called animal lovers. GO FOR IT. PUT A POLL UP. Love Frankie and Fireking. |
