Ticks

We have noticed that we have unwanted tenants in our trees that are not paying rent. TICKS. YUCK. So I am wondering what would be the best thing to give the dogs till we can get the trees sprayed? Neither of them have any. I would notice the same day they would get one since I groom every day. What do you guys suggest?

frontline plus is the only thing I have found to keep ticks off dogs for sure.

You might need to get your vet to prescribe it though - it depends on the rules where you live. I use Advantix when we have to cope with ticks, it is a spot-on treatment rather than a spray-on treatment like Frontline. I guess it depends on what is easiest for you.

You can apply it yourself but your dogs must not be bathed 48 hours before or 48 hours after the application. after the 48 hours it is completely waterproof and you can bathe, swim or whatever without frontline losing it's effectiveness.

In Spain Ticks are very common and we use Frontline spray which is just sprayed on the back of the neck. We also have to ensure that Fireking has a special collar to protect him further which is changed every 3 months. 21 euros not cheap but if you work out the weekly cost it is nothing for extra protection.

i use the frontline liquid that goes on the back in between shoulder blades not a spray, and you must follow the directions about the bathing or it wont work i am only mentioning this cause as she is an assistance dog i know she has a full bath schedule.

Ah - I didn't realise that they do frontline as a liquid as well, thanks for that GSDNewbie. Yes, bathing can be a problem, you have to get the application timing right.
