Ear Infection

AW, poor Loki has an ear infection. The 'little' guy shows no signs of it (besides a red/stinky/dirty ear). The vet gave us some drops and ear flush stuff but didn't tell us how long to give it to him. I'm guessing until it's gone?

I'm sure he'll be fine.

The vet also gave me a tip I would like to share with you to prevent ear infections. He said to do a 50/50 alcohol - vinegar mix and put it in the ear for 30 seconds after swimming/bathing (you can hold it in with a cottonball). It will dry up any remainig water and kill germs they may have gotten while in the water.

Loki had the infection before I came along (he's only gotten 1 bath with me) and that was 3 days ago and the ear infection is several weeks old.

I always put a few drops of our ear-all in Kota's ear when I see it getting a bit dirty. You just put a few drops in and rub the ear in a circular motion to get it in and break up the dirt. It also cures ear mites but Kota has never had that problem.

The vet said it also had bacteria. I noticed it was red and icky on day 1. I thought it was just from him being in an outside kennel and didn't think anything of it.

My Boxer was prone to fungal ear infections. It had a really distinct smell so I could usually treat it before it got too bad.

My vet told me never to put anything with alcohol in the dogs ears because it was too harsh. Instead she gave us something called Hexaflush. Who knows.

I tend to disagree w/ your vet.. As long as it's not pure alcohol.
