I need to know what kind of brush I should be using on my 6 mo. old puppy, Chester. He has started to shed like crazy in the last few weeks with the warmer weather. He is part Basenji and part (we think) some kind of shepherd (not 100% sure since he was a rescue). He has a smooth sleek coat and his hair is very short. I have a brush with soft bristles that doesn't seem to remove much hair. It seems as though the hairs are too short to get caught in the bristles. I was hoping the Basenji in him would keep him from shedding much but no luck. He doesn't lick himself clean like pure Basenjis either. Help!

Get a brush with the metal brissels. They have 2 sided ones that have soft on one side and metal on the other. I have a lab/rotti mix who is also shedding. We take him outside and brush him with the metal side first, then the soft side. It gets rid of a lot of the lose hair. Also, dont brush his coat if it is wet, but when you give him a bath, it helps hte lose hair come up, then brush him when his coat is dry. It is working well for us. My dog has a black coat and we dont see as much hair.

I use a slicker brush. I don't know if that will help or not, but it's worth a try! lol!

Get a shedding blade and use your soft brush after that. Soft brushes are not meant for removing hair but for removing dust and making the coat shine.

I don't remember what they're called (although I should, I did buy one today), and I'm not sure how they work, but how about a rubber massage brush? We haven't tried it on a dog yet, but all truth be told, we tried it just on our hands, and it felt GOOD! The bag is right by me...it's a...Zoom Groom. Made by Kong. Your puppy would probably at least enjoy it. And if I remember right, Basenjis aren't big shedders anyways.
Good luck!

I would use a 'slicker' brush too. They have them here on this site if you go to the products page.
