Question Eye Excretion

My dog is 17 months old and since this summer she has been going to the cabin every weekend. All sumer long her eyes have fluid comming out of them and like scabs around them. Also now the fluid is like a yellowish color. Just wondering if you can tell me if it is allergies and what I can give her to take.

thanks

It actually sounds like it has gone to either conjunctivitis or an infection.
You may need a trip to the vets I'm afraid.

I agree with Ellierat (surprise surprise ) but would add it could also be allergies. Their eyesight is nothing to mess with so - go to your vet's.

On occasion, when max and i embarked on one of our frequent and prolonged camping trips, he would get pestered by plenty of blackflies that just loved to bite him around the eyes. He did get an infection once, resulting in yellow puss and scabs from the bites. If the eye of your dog keeps discharging or if it is red, I would get some regular eyedrops in your local pharmacy (or perhaps you happen to have some at home). If that doesn't help, you might want to get eyedrops with an antibiotic in them - they are also readily available. I've been doing this for many many years and it has always been effective (and much cheaper than a visit to the vet).

I was wary to reccomend teying it yourself, but Whiskey too had an eye infection when I got him and I used an antibiotic drop from the drug store at a cost of 8.99 canadaian as opposed to th 40 dollars the vet charges an it cleared up in a matter of days.

Thumbs up Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for your help. I hadn't thought about it maybe being fly bites. I am going to keep her away from the cabin for a week and see what happens and in the mean time I am going to make an appointment so if it isn't better in a week she won't have to wait.

Thanks again everyone

well. I a, back from the vet, Zoees eye green and yellow gunk is a symptom of a respratory infection, but as she is otherwise in good health and it is not bothering her too much they are going to have me watch it and see if she continues to fight it off succesfully.

I think I am going to wait it out for a week and keep her away from the usual scene and see if that will help some! Thanks Sambucca/ Whiskey
