Want a Ginger update?
I went to see Ginger yesterday. I took Duke with me so he could play with her. That didn't work out because she is without a doubt the most wild dog I have ever seen. I mean, it's bad. Mom held Ginger down to calm and I said um, why is her you-know-what so big??? Mom was clueless. I said hold her down, I want to look at her. I went over and lo and behold, Ginger is in heat. I went off. How irresponsible. It truly makes me sick to my stomach. I told Mom she needed to call a vet asap today. Today I asked her if she made an appoinnment for her to get fixed and she said no, blah blah blah. I told her that it would take no time for a dog to get to her, if they haven't already. I said if she gets pregnant again she will probably die (not sure if this is true but I was trying to get some fire under her butt. course, it may very well be true seeing as how she hasn't even fully recooperated yet). After all this Mom said well if she gets pregnant I'll just get her fixed before she has her babies.
So that is her way of dealing with it, forcing Ginger to get an abortion. Just because she is too lazy to take her to get fixed. I'm so fed up with it all. I wish someone would take her away. She just sits there all day long doing nothing. Oh, she gets walked around the block once in a while. And no, I can't take her because as stupid as it sounds Mom says she loves her and would never get rid of her. Even though I don't think I've ever seen Mom pet her except for when she was a baby. Thanks for letting me vent.

After all you have been through, and after all that Ginger has been through. I sure hope that Ginger does not end up pregnant again. What can you do? Some people just will never understand the importance of fixing/caring/loving a pet. I hope that your mom does the responsible thing. All my prayers

Go for it Andrea, I was actually thinking of you last night when I went to bed, and wondered what ever happened to the puppies. Is daisy still ok?
What you told your mum in a sense could be quite true. Give her this...because she just had puppies and medication, if she gets pregnant it is going to take a lot more out of her than before. Yes she may die in birthing. not a good idea to wait and see if she is or not, you can only abort the puppies up to a certain age, you will have to ask Lou for confirmation on this, but once she gets past I think it is the 3rd or 4th week you can't do it, there is too much risk with bleeding. Dogs do not show at that stage, you know that yourself. Plus the cost of doing this is twice to three times more expensive than an ordinary spey. There is always a lot more blood loss involved, and risk of death. If you need to vent anymore, we are here. We have big shoulders, and you're welcome anytime. |

Telling her it's more expensive to abort may very well be the thing that gets her moving. I wonder how long she's been in heat. I so hope nothing has gotten to her yet. Mom told me that she would put Ginger in the shed overnight but she of course didn't.

The only prob Andrea is they won't spey while she is in heat, that is more expensive and risky too because of the complications with blood loss. You will have to wait till heat is over.
If you could find out how long she has been on for, you can get some pills off the vet to give her to put this heat off, they are not expensive and you give them over a course of a couple of days. She will come back in heat anything from 2 months after this again. But time enough to get her speyed. The pills have to be given within the first couple of days of heat though. |

Ellie - my vet will spay when in heat &/or pregnant. He charges almost double to do so but it can medically be done. It is likely to be more dangerous & would need to be done early on. I'm not sure if it's with the laser only but don't think so.

I asked Mom if they spayed while in heat and she said well why wouldn't they. Then I felt stupid for asking. So now I'm sure she'll get pregnant.

Yep they will spey while in heat, just it is more expensive, double up front, then if there are complications with bleeding it can esculate to tripple.
Don't know about laser sorry, we don't have it here yet. |

Take her away. Talk to a no-kill shelter, explain the situation and maybe they will be able to re-home her ASAP, then you could just bring her in and they could give her to someone who actually cares about dogs. Poor Ginger
