    Pus like substance on penis

sorry for the direct topic title, but i didn't know how else to ask. I'm sure it's nothing, but we were walking Maddux, and wanted to see if he had gone (he doesn't lift yet), so we looked at his penis, and there was a yellowish, pus-like substance on the tip. It's probably just dried up urine (we peed moments later and it was gone, and still is) but i was wondering if this could be something. Obviously, if it becomes perpetual, we'll get it checked out. I'm sure it was dried urine though.

I worried about the same thing when I first got Clifford.
Its nothing to worry about, it was explained to me its a "lubricant" for his "red rocket".
After Clifford got neutered, he seems to have that less.
    Hope that makes sense.

Dobers is one explantion, another is that it's the male dogs natural way of cleaning the inside of his sheath. Do you have a longer haired dog? Everytime he gets "excited" You will ocasionally see his penis come out, most often when he sits down, correct? Correct. So when he pulls it back in he often will drag dirt and debris from his hair into his sheath, that pus is just what's pushing the debris back out of the sheath.

    Comprehendo?
Nothing says "Oops!" like a wall of flame.

Umm, I am afraid you are both not correct here. A male's penis is not like a vagina - it does not produce lubricant. Furthermore, penises do not produce a liquid that aides in cleaning the penis. That's what licking is for. That "puss-like" substance is quite simply sperm. I know, disgusting males...

No, it's not sperm. It's a natural occurance with male dogs that helps them feel the need to lick clean, urine, debris, etc. No need for alarm.

I stand corrected. The substance actually has a name: Smegma. But it is completely normal and harmless.
