Would you tell a little white lie????

OK, a white lie is a little lie, you know, sort of stretching the truth a bit...

As you know we want to get a little brother for Poppy, I would like to get one from a rescue but most rescues won't let puppies/dogs go to homes were everybody works full time. I think that I have brought Poppy up quite well and could do the same for another puppy but the rescues won't let me have a puppy (or dog for that matter) from them because I work.

I am quite prepared to abide by their rules (puppy training, neutering when appropriate, vaccinations, flea & worm treatment etc) and the puppy would have what I consider to be a great life like Poppy has but if I tell them I work they won't even consider us.

So would it be right for me to tell a little white lie about the hours I work? Or should I simply give up on the idea of a puppy/dog from rescue and go to a breeder?

what some rescues require is riduiculous. i dont think it matters unless it is a criteria for choosing a dog that needs someone home during the day due to health or seperation anxiety. we wanted to adopt a siamese after our siamese passed away and the siamese rescue would not approve us becuase I have one unspayed animal in my home? hello she is a show dog? made no difference to them.

I had the exact same problem with Tank and I didn't fib.(but I would have) I merely showed them how I took care of my other dog. I merely pointed out that if you work hard enough, you can make it work. thankfully they reconsidered me and I was approved.

if your rescues don't seem like they will do that, then by all means tell a little white lie. it's not going to hurt anyone and you are giving a dog a wonderful home. everyone wins in my opinion, if they dont' know that it won't hurt them or the dog.

some rescues make it so hard to get a dog that it's no wonder they are full all the time.

I would lie through my teeth to get a dog I wanted, but I wouldn't get away with it cause i would give myself away lol. But, yes, a white lie wouldn't hurt. and like bernice mentioned, what's the lesser of 2 evils, a little lie or a good home for a dog that might get euthanized. Why would they deny a pup with no home when they are full to the brim?

Go for it - expecting an adoptor to not work is an unreasonable request in this day and age.

Many breed rescues are completly rediculous! One Rottweiler rescue in my area does ALL DAY home inspections. That's RIGHT they follow you around for a DAY. crazy...

Rescuers who have been at it for a while can tell when somone is going to provide a wonderful home for a dog... they will recognize you as a Labie-Lover instantly!

Oh, and to answer your question lie away!

As long as you can provide a wonderful home for the pup, and the amount of time you work is not going to have ill effects, and your ok with telling a white lie in the first place, then do it..

Personally I wouldn't because Im not in the practice of telling even white lies. I'd just go somewhere else where they had understanding that not everyone is rich and I choose not to live off welfare...

LOL - at first i thought this was in Off Topic and my answer was going to be - i lie every single day. and some of them are big whoppers! (it's related to work - "um, no, i don't know anything about the paperwork for your promotion" when i know it's getting held up b/c so and so doesn't like you.)

as for the rescues... i was lucky enough to work with a rescue who understands that people need to work to buy the food and meds to keep the dog healthy. so, i didn't have to really fudge it.

in your case - as said above - lie away!

i have seen many puppy's at animal shelters have you thought about this option? they dont carry the criteria that rescues do on adoption policies but then you also risk the fact that the puppy has not had its health checked. Just a thought.
