Spay surgery didn't happen - again!

OK, I'm really starting to think that Poppy is NEVER going to be spayed. She was booked in for last Monday and then went and had a phantom, so she started the Galastop to stop the milk production. Well, they rebooked her for today... I have been checking for milk everyday and it finally slowed down last Friday (I had to get some more Galastop from the vet on Thursday). But yesterday she was still producing milk at lunchtime, by evening it had turned to clear fluid.

So we went to the vets this morning, the vet checked and said there was way too much fluid still present to spay her... she said she'd got her surgery all planned, she'd got another vet to assist, worked out which pre-med she should have etc etc. but it has now got to be put on hold again...

So she's had another hormone injection, needs to finish this bottle of Galastop and will go back on Friday. The vet is having to cancel all her consultations for that morning too so she can do the op (she doesn't normally do surgery on Friday).

I'm concerned because Friday is just two weeks before we go on holiday (and Poppy is coming with us). The vet seems to think that she will be alright to go since most dogs are back to their normal self after a week - but this is Poppy we're talking about and she's not like most dogs - lol. I'm worried about healing, infections, internal bleeding, needing a vet next weekend (I know the surgery is staffed 24 7 but still) - all sorts are going through my head... oh where is my usual optimistic self

this may not be what you want to hear but the vet told us my friends dog would be fine in a week or two but her stitches burst twice inside and out and she was rushed to theater on two occasions, it has now been six months and still has problems due to spaying, i will not have mine done unless her life depends on it.

Most times there is no problem with spaying,or nuetering, and you might even prolong her life, as dogs that are not spayed or nuetered, have a tendency to get cancer, males testicular, and females breast. Plus there are so many unwanted puppies and dogs, I have a reg, collie, as she will be spayed as soon as I can get the fund to do so, the rest of my dogs are already done.

I can understand your worries for Poppy's recovery. With everything that's happened with her, she doesn't follow "typical" standards.

Is it possible to do the spay when you get back from your trip? I know, prolonging it even more seems frustrating, but at the same time. I'd hate for your trip to shortened or something because of Poppy! You want to enjoy it, and she does too!

I've never heard of a dog having so many troubles getting spay'd. Poor mommy - it's a stressful process anyway but you must be on the stress rollercoaster.

That's the thing - Poppy's life does depend on this! She has blood clotting problems caused by her hormones which could be fatal if she doesn't have this surgery.

Weezy - I asked about putting the surgery back but that isn't really an option, they are worried that if we put it back again she will be starting her next cycle and the problems will start again. I already have a vet organised for where we are going on holiday but I'm hoping I won't need them (except for the checkup prior to travelling back). I think the vet is hoping that because she isn't "typical" she will be back to normal quicker than usual!!!

Dax, I had this strange feeling when I took her in this time that it wasn't going to happen. Last time when I left her I had this awful feeling that something was going to go wrong - and it did. So I guess I should go with my gut feeling this Friday - lol...
