misquito's & 4week old GSD pups.

Put down a deposit with a local well known dog trainer that also breeds 1 to 2 litters a year. From what I can see it's a tip top setup. The dogs are getting human contact, medical checks and getting socialized with different experiences.

Today was the 2nd time we saw them(4weeks). All was well , clean living quarters, safe and secure. The pup kennel is located behind the owners training facility and on the edge of the woods. After they were fed we played a little with them and then rounded them up into their sleeping area. As we watched them we noticed misquito's buzzing around and landing on there bodies and faces.
  • How bad is this and is there anything I can do for these pups. Even if they aren't getting infected with germs the bites must lower there condition of living.
  • What can be done and how concerned should I be?
  • Anything I can buy that I can donate to the kennel?

mosquitoes carry heartworms and disease, It seems he would be doing something about them? they look to be in a building? Nothing should be put onto the pups at this age but perhaps he should screen the openings of the building, and place moquitoe products outside the building.

Are you sure the mosquitoes weren't just following from the outdoors when you came in? The sleeping area is in a building right? They wouldn't be left to s;eep outside in the bugs....the place looks too well kept for that. You could speak to the owners about your concerns, see what their reply is. The pups all look content and happy, and healthy.

There are mosiquto traps. They are natural chemical free units - a bit pricey.

Here is a sample website.

when i lived near the dismal swamp there were tons of mosquitoes i screened my kennels in and put in a spray system around the perimeter, it was a bit steep but my dogs were mosquito free, when living there in the summer months we couldnt even go outside during wet season without being in a screened porch/gazeebo or slathered in sprays/lotions so I did it for my dogs too so they could go out. I dont miss mosquitoes living here omg it is heaven to go out to my patio and sit and enjoy the outdoors year round with no bites n buzzing

Nope, it's a kennel. The lower area(4ft) is wood panels but the top is chainlink. There is a full on roof but the top sides are completely open to airborn bugs.

I would never leave pups out in an open kennel full time but then that is just me. At least they are seperated fron visiting dogs to the training facility and I am sure that is why he chose that area. he can use many products out there to relieve the pups from most of the mosquitoes though

Not a good situation......I agree he should sreen off all the open parts, and have the mosquitoe sprays for dogs all around the eaves.
