travel sickness

does anyone know of a relief for doggie car sickness, Henna is 16 weeks old now and is already drooling before i get her to the car door, we dont even make it to the first bend before she chucks up, we have tried anti sickness pills and very slight improvement but dont feel its right to use them all the time, we take her in the car every day to try and get her used to it but still no better (although she has learned to wipe her mouth on my collie). I wondered if there is a herbal remedy, we are taking her on holiday in 2 weeks and want to find something before then.

Ginger or flat gingerale will help. But the best is getting her used to the motion by taking her on several short trips. Even 5 minutes at a time will help her learn to deal with the motion of the car. Do it on an empty stomach so she won't throw up.

we do take her out every day, we drive to the lake about 5 or 6 minutes away so she associates a journey with something good then we walk for about 20 mins (she is only young and need to watch hips and stuff) then drive home again. She is fed about 2 hours before but i swear she stores it somewhere half way between her throat and stomach to throw up.
can i buy ginger tablets, would that work????

Gravol has a ginger version. Just confirm with your vet about how much to give. Flat gingerale works best about 1 hour before and again a little after. Try different positions in the car. Some dogs do better if they can look out a front window

A guy I know swears by candied ginger. His dog was horribly sick with each car ride before he started giving him a piece of ginger.
I truly believe that's what helps my patients with nausea, I always take Ginger Ale to work with me. Of course, getting the pup used to car rides helps.

First, try feeding her in the car withthe motor off. do this for a couple of days, then feed her with the motor running, but don't move the car. Give her all her meals this way. When she is comfortable with that put her in the car and drive down the driveway and back and end it there, do that several times also, and you keep feeding her her meals in the parked car. Everytime she does good in the driveway make a fuss. Then you can drive for 30 sec. and go back home. Continue in short trips like these until she is relaxed and no longer sick. And the piece of ginger wouldn't hurt.

my miniature dachsie is now 7 and still sick in the car, help/ my other dog is six months old and has no problem. We got the older dog at three and he already had problems that we cannot resolve, any help would be great, have tried most of the answers on posts but not ginger. Also, new laws coming in in the UK mean he will have to go in boot in cage or be restrained in back seat so front seat riding is not an option, how do I get him used to a new car cage which arrives tomorrow

do you drive with the windows up? i have found that if you keep a lot of fresh cool air circulating in the car neither me or the dogs get car sick.

if the windows are up or it's stuffy in the car, we are all sick as dogs. (no pun intended, i swear! lol)

yes the windows and the roof is open, the roof rolls back quite a long way so it gets a lot of air in but he is still sick, sometimes several times in a short space of time. My vet thinks it is anxiety rather than motion sickness but I am not convinced as he is not unwilling to get in the car, despite his sickness, not sure iwant to try drugs but might have to, are there any suggestions
