Daisy's Breathing Problem

I am just wondering if anyone knows what Daisy's problem is (or was). Last night in the middle of the night I woke up to Daisy sitting up gasping for air. It was like she was hyperventilating. I just stroked her and calmed her and she finally stopped. It only lasted a minute or so but it was scary. She has been fine ever since - no problems - eating OK running around normally. Any ideas?

I had a Shih tzu mix that used to "gasp" like sort of a breathing "fit", the Vet. called it a reverse sneeze. Don't know if your dog does the same thing, just thoght I would tell you about it.

I've known dogs to gasp for air for various reasons.... Do you know if she was sleeping or not?

A havanese I know, Zorra, she gets really, really excited, to the point that she can't breathe. She used to try to play with Kirby, and she would rush into the room, and then start gasping, and her handler would have to calm her down so she would breathe again....

...Kirby sounds like that when he's going to throw up.

Sorry to hear about your scare with Daisy. I have no idea what it could be but hope she is better today.
Take care

could have just inhaled a piece of lint or something. My dog had played with another dog and gasped with eyes bulging, couldn't find anything, rushed to clinic and she was fine by the time the bill was paid(of course). She did it next day, but this time I discovered dog hair stuck in her throat. I wouldn't worry unless it starts being a daily occurence.

Thanks everyone. Daisy has been just fine but the breathing wasn't like reverse sneezing - it was real gasping for air for a good minute or so. I know sometimes before she throws up the grass she just ate she does something like that but it was different. Also when she does her wild running through the house game at 90 miles an hour she will stop and catch her breath and cough like she has something in her throat.
The only thing I could think of was she had a real nightmare and that started it. Who knows - she's fine now thank goodness.

I am so pleased to hear it.
They are real scarers but worth it all the same.
Love to you and Daisy.
