tumor or something else?????

hey guys just wanted a couple of opinions on this...........................

i have a 13 year old female basset hound and there is a ball on her lower stomach.(a little smaller than baseball sized) i thought it was a tumor from day one, but it is nothing like the tumor my other dog had and it was almost in the same place my other dogs tumor was sticking out alot and made it hard for her to walk and i saw the change in her behavior my basset hound on the other hand has not had any changes at all still the same dog she was teh day i bought her. a couple months back when we took her for vaccinations the vet said it was nothing to worry about and he even said she was very healthy even healthier than my other dogs. at the time the ball was not as big. also in the area where the ball is located she has what looks like a big scrape from where she bleeds. we treat this and stop the bleeding and it even starts to heal and scab up but she starts licking it or scratches it and it starts bleeding. does anyone have similar problems like this or maybe some info on what this may be? we are taking her to the vet but i just want some opinions on this, im prepared to hear its a tumor but hoping its not. thanx for ur help..........

Your vet needs to take a bit of fluid from it to see if it is a tumor or not. My late dog Sadie had one just like it, it ended up being cancer. I don't mean to scare you, but if your vet won't check it to be sure, see another vet. They can't really know if it's cancerous or not by just looking at it. When Sassy recently had cancer removed from her back leg, the vet had sworn that it was just a cyst. Due to her having cancer twice before he checked it - just to be sure. I'm glad he did cos it was cancerous and it was removed the next day.

I've been wondering, did you find out what the mass was on your dog? Did the vet do a biopsy? Please let us know.

Did they biopsy it, is it a cancerous tumor? Sadie had a breast tumor and it wasn't a terribly bad surgery. She recovered quickly from it.

HI Just read your post.
Hope all is well with your dog after the surgery and that the biopsy proves negative and not cancerous.
Good Luck

Believe me, I know about cancer and tumors in dogs! If there was any doubt it was a tumor at all, when they removed it I'm sure they also took a large portion of healthy tissue along with the tumor. Both of my dogs have had many cancerous areas removed, when the cancer returned it was always in a completely different part of their body. Give your dog a kiss on the forehead from me and Sassy. She'll start feeling better everyday.

they berely sent the tumor out to get tested so when we take my dog to get checked im sure they will tell us the verdict. as for how she is doing, she looks good just really tired from all the stuff they put in her. didnt get up all day and night yesterday but today she got up by herself when she smelled food but right now she went back to sleep.
