Puppy with Ear Infection........Any Advice Welcome!

Last Thursday I took Max, my 9 week old dachshund in to have his ears checked because he kept shaking his head and scratching at them. The vet told me he had some bacteria in them and to spray a 50-50 mix of vinnegar/alcohol in them. I tried this for a few days and by Sunday he cried if we even touched his ears and i also noticed a bump on his neck, so on Monday I took him back and they gave me some antibiotic ear drops and told me the bump was irritation from him scratching at his ears. Today he is acting much better, but his glands are still really swollen now on both sides of his neck. Should I take him to another vet for a second opinion about these bumps or wait a few more days on the antibiotics??? What would you guys do??????

This ear infetion thing is making me a little paranoid as my parents lost their Lab last fall from an ear infection that got into her bloodstream and infected her brain.

If there's any doubt at all that your vet may be wrong, take the dog to another one. Some vets think they know it all, but they're often wrong. If the dog seems to be in distress, take it in!

He doesn't seem in distress at all........he's running around playing, tail wagging, and chewing like a mad man today!! I've even rubbed on the bumps and it doesn't bother him at all, BUT........ Like I said I may be a little paranoid, and if they are still swollen in a few days or he starts acting sick.........he's going to a new vet!!

A second opinion never hurts if you are in doubt.

The anti boitic ear drops should work. What colour is the liquid ? Is it yellow ?

Rudy use to get a few ear infection when he was younger. They clear up with drops.

Also remember that it takes antibiotics a little time to work depending on what type they are. Also, continue dosing for as long as recommended. Many peopel stop their antibiotics and their pets' because they feel better and infection will sometimes recur.
