Unknown Symptons...

My sister's Yorkie is showing some unusual symptons. He is not allowing others to pick him up, and if they do he makes a sort of "Yike" sound. He usually doesn't let anyone pick him up other than his owner but today it seems much worse than other days.

His stomach feels hard, and when it is rubbed he lays down as if being soothed. He's shaking uncontrollably and it seems as if he wants to vomit. For the most part, he's been hiding underneath my sister's bed for the best part of one hour. Is there anything that could be wrong with him? Could he be ill? Or is it some sort of behavior problem?

Take him to a vet immediately. It could be intestinal blockage, bloat etc. Take him asap, better to be out a few dollars and still have the dog than be out the dog and save a few buck.

Doglover 12, Your dog could have a blockage, it could be constipated, or a number of other things ranging from mild to serious.
I would give the dog until tomorrow. If it is not feeling better, then I would take it to the vet.
Sometimes, our dogs just have a stomach ache. It doesn't mean they are going to die if you don't get them to the vet immediately. I wouldn't get frantic over this, but if the dog acts the same tomorrow, I'd want to have it checked by the vet.
Also, if the dog is on dry food only, you may want to give it some soft food depending on if it is having a hard time pooping. You need to pay attention to your dog to see what it's bowel's are like.

Everybody knows their own dogs, you can tell if their behaviour is not normal, any discomfort whatsoever should be seen to immediately, go to the vets now, don't wait!!!

Thanks everyone for the responses. My sister was actually in a frantic about it all and I remembered how this site helped me out with my dog problem so I decided to post it up here.

So what she did was somehow coax him from underneath her bed and fed him some dry food. He ate a little and after about 10 minutes he began feeling better, wagging his tail, playing with her daughter, etc. I think maybe it was some sort of minor anxiety or stress, yet it doesn't emplain much. His stomach did feel better after about that same amount of time...
