cocciada please help!!!!!!!!!!

ok so the pup that i thought was just sick b/c of the worms has cocciada!!!! i need some advice from people that have dealt with this please. he is already at the stage of rapid weight loss. dehydration even though he is drinking. mucus covered watery poop with some blood. and not eating. will he be ok untill monday or should he go to the vets tomorrow. is there anything that i can do at home to help him in the mean time. is this going to affect my dog and cat? im sooo glad that boy gave him up i'd hate to think of what the outcome of this would be if he still had him. he is up and walking around and when he goes out side he preks up a bit and runs the cats.

Coccidia can be treated with an oral suspension - albon.

Was a fecal done to positively diagnose this as coccidia? What did your vet recommend for treatment?

Here are a couple of links - one pertains to coccidia in cats (had a kitten recently with coccidia) but offers some good info on the life cycle/treatment of coccidia.

Coccidia is a bacterial type illness that needs antibiotic/antimicrobial treatment by a vet. My Boxer had this at 7 weeks old and almost died of dehydration with in about a day of the diarrhea starting. The antibiotics started to clear the bowel quite rapidly and she got better quickly.
I'm wondering why you have a diagnosis but no treatment prescribed? Are you sure it's coccidia and not giarrdhea?(sp?) They have the same symptoms but can require different antibiotics.

I took him to the this morning and it was parvo. they gave him fluids under his skin and i am to start him on the meds tomorrow and a liquid deit if he doesn't throw that up then i can try a caned food that the vet gave me. after a 2 hour nap he was up and running!!!!i thought it was cocciada b/c he had all the symptoms but i called the vet and she said that he has all the symptoms of parvo and that i needed to bring him. but things are looking good! i told the boy what he had and he said that he knew b/c all the dogs at his house had just died! and then had the nerve to ask y i took him to the vet and wasted my money????????!!!!!!! i told him him that it crule to just let a dog die if you can help him. and the simple fact that he is alive is enough proof that a vet visit is not wasted money. i cant belive some people!

because he figures he can just get more where they came, the dog makes them for free why pay to have them be treated and have no money this is actually common in some people they dont care.

If you go to a farm supply store and buy liquid Panacur. give 1cc for every 4 lbs of body weight 1 time per day for 10 days. this will take care of the coccidia. also other worms and parasites.

So I'm confused... it's definitely parvo? Did they do the test? And have they tested a stool sample for coccidia?

My puppy had coccidia a few weeks ago, and had to be hospitalized with IV fluids and antibiotics. She had gone from looking like a perfectly healthy puppy to looking completely emaciated in about 12 hours. She was throwing up every 10 minutes and then after about 12 hours she started have very watery, bloody diarrhea. She had to have her medicine by way of IV because she wasn't keeping any of it down long enough for it to have an effect.

The Albon that someone mentioned earlier doesn't kill the coccidia. It prevents them from reproducing, so that the dog's immune system can start fighting the parasites. It keeps the parasites from getting ahead in the game, so to speak. But ultimately, if it's coccidia, the dog's own immune system has to fight off the parasites.
