Dog food

What do you feed your dog? What made you choose it?
Just curious abou this. We used to feed Bailey Pedigree Healthy Vitality, but we discovered that it made her belly hurt. She hadn't had any problems at my sister-in-law's house when we'd leave her there, so we tried No-Name brand food and now she won't eat anything but that.
We like it because she feels better and she's not sick from it, plus the fact that it's like $6 a bag doesn't hurt. We supplement it occasionally with rice, meat drippings, mashed potatoes, stuff like that, but she seems really happy with just the plain food.

We feed Duke Iams Large Breed Puppy food. I decided on Iams because after researching it seemed to be the best that I could get around where I live. However, I think I'm going to switch to Chicken Soup For The Puppy Lover's Soul. I have heard wonderful things about this food. I can get it where I am and it's about the same price as Iams.

I was feeding Gretta Royal Canin for German Shepherds but her skin started itching after a while. So I switched her to Sensible Choice (also made by Royal Canin) chicken and rice. It has fewer ingredients but still a good healthy diet. She seems to be doing better on this so far.

Sidney is on Limited Diet Fish and Potato that we get from the vet. She has just about every food allergy you can imagine and this seems to be the only formula she can handle.

As long as the food you are giving her now is complete and she is doing well on it, I don't see any reason to switch. Just make sure she is getting the vitamins, minerals that she needs. You might want to think about giving a vit/min. suppliment just to be on the safe side.

I used to feed Max Nature's recipe - easy choice, it's the only food he readily accepted... Now at fifteen with only a few teeth left, he gets canned Alpo Chunky - again, it's the only food he accepts.

I used to feed Kirby a mix of Eaglepack and Innova, but he never ate the innova... triangles. Right now he's eating this First Mate Platinum Plus - Fish/Potato Hympo-allergenic diet... (It's a locally made dog food) and mashed innova.

I have been feeding Nutro since puppy hood. The large breed variety. A little expensive, but he has a great coat which is sometimes a problem in the red dobermans. Also supposed to be great for joints.

I am one of those horrible people that changes my dog's food frequently. Fortunately, I have labs that usually have strong stomachs. Greta can not each canned food. That does seem to make her sick. But as far as dry kibble, I usually feed Diamond perfomance since we sell it at the coop I work for. And sometimes Canidade and sometime Nutro. I know that is not good... I am a horrible mom

THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE.
it is better for a dog to get a variety of foods, rather than just one food for its whole life. Feeding different commercial diets can help fill in nutritional gaps that a particular food or brand might have, as well as making it less likely that your dog will develop food allergies. Rather than trying to find one "perfect" food, it would be better to find 3 or 4 different ones that your dog does well with, and alternate between them, feeding one for three months or so, then switching to another.
That's why I alway changed their food. When this last bag of Innova finish, they will eat Canidea.

I feed dried food - Burgess Supa Dog Puppy version (not sure if it's available outside the UK). I don't feed Iams or Eukanuba (however it's spelt) because of all the horrific animal testing they do. We also have another one in the UK called the Science Plan or something (supposedly recommended by vets - but only because of all the commission they get) but this one is actually full of cr*p ingredients that I wouldn't want my dog to eat and they do animal testing as well.

I also supplement the dried food with fruit, veg, tripe mix and any meat that we might be having - but only if the cat doesn't get to it first, like she did last week LOL!
