First of all, congrats on the new addition! Does she have a name?
As for the tongue, that is common in some breeds I think. As in the chow, they tend to have blue-black colored tongues. |

Her name is Silvy, and her vet papers say she is a Shar Pei/husky X
however I thought she may have have chow in her and I was always on the belief that Chows were aggresive dogs (my aunt had one that could not stand ANYONE but her owner and eventually attacked her really bad).. everything seems fine however should I worry with my kids? |

well she deffinatly is holding her own with the other dogs they are doing alot of play fighting (I take it for play since no dogs are welping etc) and she is a bit of a tough ckick even with my WGSD who is atleast 4-6" taller then her..
she seems to love my kids however I will have to keep a close eye on her! Dave |

some info i found on thier tongues for you ..Shar-Pei may have some light pigment either in the center of the nose or on the entire nose. The lips and top of muzzle are well-padded and may cause a slight bulge above the nose. Tongue, roof of mouth, gums and flews - solid bluish-black is preferred in all coat colors except in dilute colors, which have a solid lavender pigmentation. A spotted pink tongue is a major fault. A solid pink tongue is a disqualification. (Tongue colors may lighten due to heat stress; care must be taken not to confuse dilute pigmentation with a pink tongue.) Teeth - strong, meeting in a scissors bite. Deviation from a scissors bite is a major fault.

Your dog looks very evidently part shar pei. I do not see any chow at all - although chows do have aloof tendencies, and tend to be difficult to handle. Shar peis are similar, but less extreme. Both Shar Peis and Chows have tongues that are ENTIRELY blue.
More about tongue colouring, tongue birth marks are entirely normal. However, dogs that do not have shar pei or chow in them should not have BLUE tinted tongues, but markings should be black. It is extremely common for a labrador to be born with, or develop a black spot or marking in any position on his tongue. It is possible in other breeds, but not as frequently occuring. |
