Cats- humane society?

Okay we moved into this house and started with 4 wild cats living there..
one got killed... we had three.

One cat had kittens... we're up to 7 cats here
Another cat had kittens... we're up to 11 cats.
A third cat has kittens... we have 13...
A male cat comes... that's 14...
A few dissapeared... so we were back to 10.
I go out just now... 6 kittens come wandering out of the barn.... that;s 16 cats now.... they keep reproducing. and that's WAY too many cats. I've caught the 6 kittens in a dog crate... they have a few teeth so I gave them some watered down food and some water.... I'm going to see if we can take them to the humane society... would that be the best plan....?

Let the shelter know you are having a population problem with stray cats. They may have a spay/neuter plan you can get on and help you home some as well. My mom has got this same problem. It started with two cats and others were either dumped or found their way to her place.

Try to call a no kill shelter first. If they can be saved from being put down then thats great. If there is none around you do something like what salemwitchchild said.

also, ask your shelter to borrow a "have a heart" trap if they use them.

you should catch each of the strays, bring them in to get fixed, and then release them again. at this point, the adults are probably too wild to be in a home, but you can at least keep them from having more and more litters. by this time next year, your number will be in the hundreds if you don't.

i know it may be expensive, but if you work with a shelter/rescue group, they probably have a vet who will give you price breaks.

I know it's a lot... none of the cats are ours.... we can't catch them, we're renting this place, the people before us left their cats... so I mean basically this problem has been dumped on us....

Good job at finding a no kill to take them too. thats a good idea to keep the adults fixed and let them roam still.

*dies* I just found four more kittens when the horse vet was out here... the six kittens are 5 weeks old, and the four kittens I found were about 2 weeks old. One of the kittens was dead when we found it so the vet took it to dispose of it for us.

We are over run with cats and will most likely call animal control to get those humane traps.

With the two adult females we will get them fixed and set them free. The two adult males if we catch will set them free to keep them. Of the 4 kittens we have that are old enough we will catch and take them to a humane society or shelter, and the six kittens we found we'll try to find homes for. Out of the three surviving 2 week old kittens, we left them where we found them, but my sisters friends have held them and handled them after I told them NOT to, so if their mother won't take them back the only other choice I have is to try the 5 week old kittens mother...

But we are over run with cats and I think this is the only thing we can do. We called the landlord but he won't take care of them...
