Poor Luca

Poor Luca has a pulled muscle in his shoulder. He likes to race around the house. His favorite is to run really fast and then skate across the kitchen floor. Trust me I try to get him to stop doing this but I can't always catch him to stop him. Well I was folding laundry in teh livingroom he came racing out of the bedroom and hit the kitchen floor as he always does, but this time he decided I will turn at teh last minute and go to mom in the livingroom. He slide right into the wall. That was two days ago and he still has a limp. I have been massaging his shoulder and not letting him play as much but being a typical teenage boy it is very hard to keep him still. Any suggestions. The only sign of pain is hte limping. He doesn't show any pain when you handle the leg at all.

Goodness that sounds very much like Kirby. If he has to turn, he won't, he'll bounce off the wall instead. Literally, I think he finds it faster. He taught himself this in an agility tunnel, and now does it whenever he is running fast. I'm always afraid of something liek that happening.

Sorry, I don't really have any suggestions... Do you think he will let you apply heat to it?

He will let us do anything to it. Even a hand held massager(the vibrating kind).

When you pull a human muscle (I've never pulled another kind, not sure what other kinds I have,) icing is good for the first 2 days, to minimize swelling, but then it's time to heat it to increase blood flow. You could try that.... Getting him to walk, not run, but walk often, and rhythmic utilisation of a pulled muscle is actually good for it.

If he is still limping tomorrow we are taking him to the vet.

I'm just wondering what the vet had to say about your puppy?

I would be suspicious of OCD, ED or Panosteitis, in addition to the pulled muscle concerns.

When my cat pulled a muscle, everytime he'd get pain killers he'd over do it so we made him 'suffer' so he would stop jumping around and be a lazy cat until it felt better.

Good luck!

They could always give him something like Rimadyl to help with pain though.

Just wondering how Luca is as I never saw any update on his condition.

Hope he's doing fine.

Sorry. I had put an update in teh general dog chat. So far I have not had to give him any pain meds. The vet said to give him the meds only as needed. They found nothing wrong with him. I am positive it is only Pano(growing pains). He rarely limps now. Usually only after a long nap or some running around with Sheena. He seems to be back to his old self now. So I am very happy but still keeping an eye on him. Thank you so much for asking.
