There are various ways to treat ringworm which is actually a fungal disease. I once took in a cat that was infected with ringworm and I used an anti-fungal shampoo twice and it cleared up without a hitch. Some vets may prescribe medication such as tablets to be taken but they have side effects and are totally unecessary. It's best to make sure that any bedding that the dog has slept in to be washed in hot water and bleach to kill any spores and if the dog has access indoors there is a chance that the spores may be resting on your carpet so steam cleaning may be a good idea too. Clean any hard flooring with diluted bleach and I dont think you will have any ongoing problem. Make sure that you wash your dog with the appropriate shampoo twice a week. I found that two baths were all that was needed for the cat but you may want to bathe your dog twice a week for 2-3 weeks just to make sure. Don't be lured by the vet into giving the dog antifungal tablets as there really is no need for it.

Ring worm can stick around for a while even with treatment... may not be quite as contagious, though. I'm a teacher and I got ring worm a couple years ago. It took me 4-5 weeks to get rid of it after I started putting antifungal ointment everyday. I realize you're asking about your dog, but I think the principle is the same.

Well, she is my dog but she's not home yet. The pups in the litter that we bought her from have all come down with a case of ringworm. We were going to pick her up on the 11th but know they say they don't know it all depends on when the ringworm clears up. Ugh, this really sucks. They are doing medicated shampoo, dips, and anti-fungal ointment right now and they say they hope to have it cleared up by the 11th. I sure hope so.
