Baby not doing very well

Well we are taking baby to another vet for a second opinion.!

As most of you know Baby has a staph infection and it has gotten better in spots. But her hair has not grown back and her skin in spots had turned black so she has black skin instead of her peachy. Well I dont think the medicine that we were given is working.. the infection has moved to her cheeks at least that is what I believe I have been examining her.. goodthing I worked at a Animal shelter I know a basic stuff.
It looks like it has moved to her cheeks when you feel on here cheeks it feels like there are little abcesses. Her poor face looks swollen and she still has lots of little lumps on the back of her neck area the previous open abcess that the vet squezed have healed up but there are still lumps. She is still eating and drinking but she threw up last night. She is just not her normal self. When we put her food out last night normally she will get up and eat and she didn;t we had to put the bowl in front of her and she ate it laying down. Her eyes are blood shot and she just is not acting like herself... she seems depressed a little. But even though I am going to take her to a more expensive vet... and its going to cost more money I love her and I just think that the vet that I am going to know is just going to give me some execuse and more medicine... he is not very friendly and not very personable.. the girl that is there is really really nice but I have not seen her. SOooo we are going to a new vet on thursday and hopefully find out whats REALLY wrong with her.

Hopefully baby will feel better soon. I just hope this vet before gave us the right stuff cause if the infection gets worse.... I am going to be so mad and just really upset.

Oh, poor Baby! How sad! Best of luck at the new vet. Don't let them intimidate you. If you have questions, ask them. That's what they get paid the big bucks for.

I would be interested to know several things:

What does Baby eat?

What medication are you giving her?

What vaccines has she had recently?

I hope Baby recovers from this soon.
I do think Redyrerotties has some good questions, the vaccine thing is something I'd be curious about.

Baby eats Purina Dog chow.
The vet gave her a shot.. he did not tell me what it was. But she has Dermagen Ointment that I was putting inside the abcess but now just putting it on her skin where ever there are issues.
She is also taking a pill twice a day called Cephalexin.

Today she seems to be doing better as far as her furn growing back. She just still seems down. She would not eat yesterday, she ate a little today and drank water.!

I googled that drug. A side effect is an upset stomach so that may be normal. Try offering smaller meals more often.

Did he take any skin scrapings?

Cephalexin is a very common antibiotic used for humans to treat common staph infections. Also known as Keflex.

Kefles is what I take, and it upsets my stomach, that is probably why she isn't wanting to eat.I think you are right,in getting rid of the vet, that won't give you a definate answer,we fired 4,before we got the right vet.
