What to do???
I have been called on once again by rescue.
The Great Dane rescue has a 10 year old female in need of a home. She is in the start of kidney failure, has mild heart worm that can not be treated. I am told she is as sweet as can be. They asked me to take her Then... We got an emergency call from Kentucky about an 8 year old male dumped at the pound by his "family". He is arthritic, and the concrete at the pound wont do him any good. His time is up on the 6th. What should I do? I am concerned about disrupting the harmony I have right now, but I feel bad for BOTH dogs. I am also concerned for myself emotionally having potentially 2 senior Danes, its going to be such a heart break to lose them! I told myself I wasn't going to get overly attached to Dana...I LIED to MYSELF, I love her like I have had her all her life!

I would see if I couldn't get the 8 year old pup out of there. He doesn't seem like a very likely guy to get adopted before the 6th, I would do what I can to get that pup out of the shelter. You're right, the concrete can't be good for arthritis! Do you know of anyone else who could help by fostering these guys while you try and find suitable homes? You can only do so much though. Having your 2 dobes, an elderly dane, and a dane pup, would you be able to take any more? You could probably aid the rescue in finding the female dane an appropriate home without having to adopt her. You may not want to put yourself through the heartbreak that may happen with adopting another senior dane. You don't need to be the one to adopt her to show her the love that she hasn't seen in awhile. I'm not saying that you shouldn't adopt her, I just think that you shouldn't feel like you have to.

I would have to say that with the immediate info given the male is in greater need of help at the moment.

Good points guys.
The female is safe, just needs more of a home environment. I agree I think the male is more of a priority. Just to pour salt in the wound...there is another 6 year old male needing help too, dont have the deatils on him yet. I know I cant save them all, but gosh, seems they all deserve a chance! Rusty, I dont have Bear anymore, he is adopted!
