300 Pit Bulls Rescued After Owner Killed

*sighs*

http://www.wfsb.com/nationalnews/9646749/detail.html

CLEVELAND, Texas -- Hundreds of pit bulls were rescued from an illegal dog-fighting breeding ring after a man was shot to death, officials told Houston television station KPRC.

The Houston Humane Society said 300 pit bulls were discovered on a 23-acre property in Liberty County.

Last week, the owner, identified as 25-year-old Thomas Wagner, was shot and killed in a home invasion at about 4 a.m., according to deputies.

The Humane Society went to the property to collect the animals.

Officials said transporting the dogs was a big undertaking because they had to be kenneled in separate crates so that they would not attack each other.

The conditions of the animals have not yet been released.

What a horrible news article. I wonder if they will rehabilitate the dogs or euthanize them. Keep us posted with more news if you get some.

Now that's just a shame cause I doubt seriously if any of those pups will get out of that shelter, and it's not like they know any better than to do what they've been taught

it does seem unlikely they'll all find homes. especially if they've already been trained to be fighters and are very aggressive.

At least they will be put out of their misery - that is no way for any dog to live.

How sad.

I think it is unlikely that they will be adopted out since they have been labeled as fighting dogs. Some states have a policy that any/all dogs used for fighting (even puppies) must be euthanized.

Here is a similar scenario, very long read but very touching. Tissue warning, everyone: http://www.sptimes.com/2006/07/30/Fl...el_trash.shtml

I really didn't think there existed any more of this, how sad.

That's terrible, but at least they won't have to live that tragic lifestyle any longer. It's just so sad that that many dogs will have to be put down. I'm sure it's for the best, I know some can be rehabilitated, but with that many... I don't know if it's *worth* it.. even though I think it's always worth it to give the dog another chance. I know it's hard to do that though, since fighting was instilled in them since puppyhood.

That is such a large large number of dogs ..
