Unhappy Irresponsible Owners/Puppy pays with life

This happened a few years ago,but it still bothers me,so I am going to vent, and hopefully,I can put this behind me. I have done rescues on animals for 40 years now, mostly with horses, but have also taken in dogs, and still do with cats, and horses.I've have seenthings no one should witness, but for some reason, this one is sticking to me. Here is the story.
My husband and i get up at 5:00 in the morning, have the horses and dogs taken care of by 6:00 and then we head for work. It was still dark, and we live on a back country road, like one vehickle has to get over to let one get by,so we were in no means going fast, out of the corner of my eye, I see a a shawdow, and then four more, the last run under the wheels of our truck, then we heard the screaming of a puppy. Both our hearts sunk,We got out,and there was a part Siberian puppy laying under our truck, three others ran up a enbankment,we gently pulled the pup out,we didn't know whose pup it was,it was alive, but in the throws of death,it couldn't be saved,so my husband, put it out of its misery, and we cryed. We then gently put the pup,up on the same enbankment, where the other pups disapeared at,we then went on to work. When we came home that night,we stopped at the closest residence, and asked them,if the had siberian pups,he said yes, they are around here somewhere.
We then ask him,if he found the body to a little girl Siberian, and he said yes, he buried her over the hill. I then told him,we were the ones who had run over her,he wasn't upset, he just said, well considering the pups run everywhere,he thought they would all have been run over by now.
I was so upset, I said, they will if you don't pen them up, and he said, well that would solve my problem, that way they would all be dead. At that time,I cooly asked if we could have all them, and he said yes. They were wormy, and had ticks on them,so bad it took all day to get them off. Two were really enemic,so it took two weeks to get them healthy, we then found them all homes, the bitch was still there, she had been hit to at one time, and had a broken paw,we went to get her to,but right before we got there, she also was killed. Now these same people just got a beagle pup,and it is running the roads,I called the animal control, but they didn't come out,and now that pup was hit to. I am so angry,I could hurt these people. Not to mention, it killed us to destroy this beautiful little Siberian girl, what is wrong with these people? If i see them have another dog,i swear I will become a thief, and find it a home.

What a heartwrenching story. I had trouble finishing it. those people have no right to own any animal in my opinion. Could you not lay a citizen's charge against them and take them to court on this? Or you could have an officer of the SPCA accompany you, dressed like a plain citizen, and he could check this out and have them fined and turn in the pups. Chances are they wouldn't be allowed to own another dog. Depends where you live, but this is how it's handled out here. If none of this is useful to you, then I'm on your side. Become a dog thief, I think God would understand this one. Better to take in a run around pup or dog, nuture it and rehome it than watch them get hit by cars. The accident wasn't your fault and your husband did what he had to do. Put that one behind you and make it up to all those other poor pups who will pass through these people's hands.

Pung-yo out here there is no SPCA. We have a county shelter run by 2 people. They do what they can but mainly they pick up strays only in town. I don't know what a citizen's charge is?? The only thing you can really do here is complain to the police/animal shelter.

I know what house she is talking about. I almost ran over one of their dogs on my way out to mom's house once. Unfortunately it's not uncommon for citizens living in the county to let their dogs run free on their farm. They end up on the road and unfortunately under someones tires.

Well salems mom as far as im concerned you handled it alot bettere then I would have. My neighbours across the street use to have a lab mix that always ran loose and we live a busy area and she use to go lay in the middle of the road and when a car would cme she wouldn't move, she also use to come up to my house all the time because I gave her food and she layed with thte dogs, Well I became that theif I took her and found her a home and she now lives with my cousin, I won't even lie I would do it anyday with any dog. She was never wearing a collar so as far as im concerned they didn't own her and to this day they still don't know what happened to her.

Salem child---didn't know about no SPCA. Well in that case, I would pick up every lose dog and rehome it. I feel like Nikkolen on that one. Citizen's charge is the same as citizen arrest. We live in the county and we follow the same leash laws as everyone else. If there is a stray dog it gets picked up by one of us and brought to a no kill shelter.

They don't reconize a citizens arrest here, they just don't have the people here to look into this kind of stuff going on. You can call the shelter,or the police, and if they have time, they might go out,and tell them to keep thier dogs in thier yard, but unless they see it for themselves, they can't do anything about it.
