Fidgety dog losing hair

Can anyone help? I have a retriever/husky (and others) mixed breed dog who is 6 years old. She has recently started to scratch and lose hair in massive amounts and she won't sit still for more that 2 minutes. She strolls around rather quickly looking at the sky/ceiling. She NEVER goes up to the second floor of the house and she was wondering around in our bedroom this morning.

She also pants constantly.

I would recommend you take your dog to your vet. Hair loss could mean there is something more wrong. It could be hot spots, skin infection, mange, thyroid, allergies, etc.

Your vet should be your partner in keeping your dog(s) healthy. I would hate to give you advice only to find out your dog has an underlying medical condition that was delayed in getting treatment.

I would take Dax's advice. Taking your dog to the vet would be the best coarse of action.

Unhappy Time to visit the vet!

Thanks for the reply gals. I stumbled on this site only this morning and hoped I could get some insight as to something I could do in the meantime to ease her discomfort. I'll definitely be taking her to the vet this week. She seems to be resting right now but breathing unusually heavy.

She and our other dog were both at a (reputable) kennel recently for 10 days while we were away on business/vacation - I certainly hope this isn't something she's picked up there. Upon examining her (and our other dog) they both seem to have an ear problem too. Boy is one day this week going to be an expensive one!

It could be the added stress of being away from home. Maybe a dog sitter for the next time.

Please let us know what the vet says. Big hugs to them both.

BTW - welcome to the forum. Do you have pictures of them to show us?
