Question huge water intake and frequent urination.??????

ok since day one with Destiny she has always drank a ton of water. lots of people told me that sporting dogs just tend to like to drink a lot of water.

I have a couple pictures at least that show that tummy full of water. just can't scan them.

I am getting frustrated. I just went through loosing a dog from cushings disease 2 years ago at 6 years of age. After that I learned to not totally depend on the vets figuring things out.

ok water intake is a big thing with cushings but she has been like this since 7 wks at least.

ok I got concerned so got her urine tested as a pup, yup, infection.

put her on antibiotics. seemed to help.
I think I just got used to always giving her lots of water and letting her out a little bit more frequently. didn't really realize it. didn't have other dogs around to compare it too. now I realize she drinks a TON more water then Paige does and Destiny is only about 35 lbs and Paige is 50!

I got her tested again a while back. Vet said she had some nasty Bacteria in there. put on antibiotics, things got better, well the urination I know did. Then a few days after antibiotics were gone urination was an issue again.

She doesn't seem to struggle, or be in pain at all when urinating so I doubt stones.

I have noticed she has vomitted a bit lately. stomach fluids. she used to vomit if I was a while later feeding her. I thought that was all it was, strange as it seems. ok no, she has vomitted in the morning a couple times, that I have noticed. I feed her at night.

She will be going back to the vet in a couple weeks when I can get her in. But any ideas? help?

Destiny is about 4 1/2 years old now. been an ongoing thing.

I think this is really starting to be a problem now.

AAhhhhhhhh

Did your vet do a blood chemistry panel on her? Specifically to check BUN levels? ( Kidney function) and blood glucose. If not you should have it done and go from there... Hope it's nothing serious

Get her blood sugar tested. I don't know if its the same for dogs, but in people, what you're describing are classic symptoms of diabetes.

Diabetes is something to definitely consider. Also possibly bladder stones/crystals? I would just look into her entire urinary system. Maybe go to an internist, they'll keep the rule outs bigger and out of the box than a regular vet.

Is this a long time trusted vet? Do you know if they checked everything for sure? Call and ask get copies and maybe another opinion.

Diabetes was the first thing I thought of as well. I would ask for a repeat panel be done with a fasting blood glucose.

well, I never really thought it was a big problem till this last time. after the antibiotics seemed to help then problem seemed to be back. well ok bladder issue did seem a bit better. could have been a fluke.

ya know last night I did see Diabetes come up as a possibility. I will have to chek that out more myself.

No this is not a long time trusted vet. this is a new vet to me. This is the vet that fixed her a few months back. we made a trip before that to him, got antibiotics, did blood work, he saw the old blood work. oh and did the UA as well, that's why we got antibiotics.

He said the bloodwork seemed fine. I think I will go back to him and let him know this is a real big issue now. Need to figure it out.

I don't think it is stones for the fact there has been no blood and NO straining at all. I think that's why I never really caught on too much that there was a real problem. I just know there is now.
