Dogs Eating Grass

I know its been discussed before many times but I just don't know why Daisy eats grass and then throws up. Is there something from their ancestors that makes them do this to cleanse their systems or something?

Just wondering. I have to keep her outside til she's finished - grass stains!!!!

This i have heard is to clean out their stomach.. Grass is the best thing for a digestive system. it makes them throw up anyhting that may be unwanted. like a rutine check up

Same with Maia-one of her favorite things is to go in the backyard and do some grazing. Never has made her throw up (she's only 5 months so who knows what will happen in the future. We too have problems coming out the other end-looks a little strange!

Wyatt eats grass everyday. I'm glad that he's not the only one.

P.S. I am also a big fan of the poo sausages. He likes to pick up my long hairs and then they get caught on the way out! Gross...but the things we will do for love right?

LOL Emma does too. It does look a little odd but I'm used to the cats doing it...so I wasn't worried. It's a natural emetic in that it may produce some throwing up. What comes out the back end is always interesting!

Thanks for the input. I never have anything come out the rear end so I don't have to put on the rubber gloves!!! Actually Daisy just seems to do it at certain times. Maybe its the season? We spend the winters in Arizona where she doesn't see grass - just rocks so I guess shes storing up on it.

When Fireking was a pup he was always eating grass and then throwing it up. Asked vet and he said that it was perfectly normal to keep his digestion in check. He told me he knew of another GSD owner who had brought his dog in for a check up cos he had stopped eating the grass and was worried something was wrong!!!!

Loki eats grass, Denali usually doesn't... until she see's Loki doing it and then she needs to too (They always have to eat the same stuff - it's funny!). Thankfully it's never gotten stuck but occassionally is thrown up.
