Canine Cushing's Disease
I've seen Cushings Disease mentioned several times on this forum and went onto do some research. I know how it presents in humans but wondered about the canine end of things. I find this really great site.

ok well let me tell you this. I had a lovely little sheltie that was my heart dog. boy do I miss that little guy.
He was the best little dog I could have ever asked for.He started getting lethargic at about 2 1/2 years of age. then I started seeing spots, bald spots, on his nose. went through lots of my vet being clueless. He didn't seem to drink a ton of water either. But he was starving all the time. poor Kota's. HIs coat deteriorated, he started to loose muscle mass. I took him to another vet. they did a punch biopsy and found that he most likely he had.....yes...... cushings. did the ATCH, I think, test. Found it was cushings. We lost him at 6 years of age and everything I heard said not to even think that they may have it till they are at least 6 years old! HA! he had it by at least 3 years of age. all the vets (3) told me that they usually go from a blood clot. that is what they figured we lost my sweat little boy from. Very young age, but yes, it does happen. Cushing's is the same for horses if anyone on here has horses.

Stress & A'Drenal Plex is the best choice for a dog with Cushing's disease. Description
Azmira's Stress and A'Drenal Plex helps to restore integrity to the adrenal glands and promote a greater sense of energy and stamina while building up the body's response to stress. These herbs are also nutritive and tonic to the adrenal glands as well as to nerve cells and tissues. As an adaptogen, these herbs reduce the stress on a body constantly exposed to excessive physical and/or emotional strain. For pets with severe loss of vitality, anemia, low blood pressure, anxiety, strain, and low energy, please do seek Veterinary diagnosis. What Is In It? Stress and A'Drenal Plex is comprised of Siberian Ginsing Root, Chinese Schizandrra Berry, Fresh Damiana Leaf, Kola Nut, Fresh Wild Oats, Licorice Root, Fresh Scullcap Herb, and Prickley Ash Bark. How To Use It Use 1 drop per 5 lbs. of body weight per dose. Dose can be doubled initially to build up therapeutic properties or as needed for acute situations. Shake well. DO NOT USE UNDILUTED! Mix extract in a small amount of warm water or apple juice. Extract can be mixed into food if needed, but do double dose to increase assimilation. |

) . I was reading a few threads, in this section, and saw this mentioned, so I decided to check into it.My thing is to learn as much as possible so that I know when something is amiss. When I was a kid, I devoured everything I could get my hands on re: horse health. I knew alot of the disorders. Then I went into medicine and did the same. Again so sorry for your loss

Addison's and Cushings are common in mid-life dogs. But Louise was just diagnosed with Addison's (the opposite of Cushings) and she's only 3 as well. And I've met other dogs now that were diagnosed as young as 2!
No one knows for sure, but some say both of these disorders start from birth and go unseen until the body goes into shock and shows severe signs. |
