swollen, blistered paws

My brother just got home today with his dog from a week long hiking/fishing trip. Turns out it was a little farther than poor surge (the dog) could handle. His paws are all swollen, red and blistered between the toes and on his pads. I put polysporin on them but is there anything else that I could use to help them heal up quickly since the poor fella's having a hard time walking around?

I would apply cool compresses to reduce the swelling. Rest is the best medicine. Some udder butter or bag balm massaged in might also help.

I agree with Dax. Cold compresses to the swollen areas, 3 times a day. Bag balm is great. Take his temp to rule out any infectious process that may be trying start. Crate him for quiet periods and only let him out on soft and safe surfaces. If there are blisters....please don't lance them. You'll break the natural skin barrier and may introduce infection. Kepp a very close on them and if you notice any further swelling, localized heat, pus...please have a vet check it out. Hope this helps.
