Talking First Training Class

Been to our first training class tonight - it was great - apart from the Collie (older dog) and Staffordshire Bull Terrier (puppy) that kept trying to attack her. It wasn't personal or anything, they attacked anything that came within about 5 feet of them

We did walking to heel first, we walked how we would normally with our dogs (which of course isn't right), then he showed us how to do it properly. He decided to pick Poppy to carry out this demonstration of how it should be done. BUT (yes, you knew this was coming didn't you?) she had other ideas. She would not walk to heel for him at all . So he gave her back to me and tried it with the Staffie - that did walk to heel for him!!!

We did all sorts of other basic stuff like sit, down, stay, about turn... he recons we'll be able to do all that with hand signals and off lead by the time we've finished

Watch out Moo and Kirby, we're going to catch you - as for getting the dog to focus on you, apparently you do anything you can!!!

And the best bit, I'm sure Poppy will tell you it was getting a little chocolate doggie bone at the end. She's never had chocolate before - did she eat it? Of course she did - she's a lab isn't she?

You will be so amazed at the progress of your puppy by the end of your session. Myself, in some of the pre nov classes I have helped with, I have been completely shocked at some of the dogs as well as the owners. Your puppy's mind is wide open for learning and she will impress you with her ability to learn and well, her ability to be stubborn. She is a Lab after all

Good Job BabyE and Poppy

Kirby's not scared of a girl catching up. Watch, just for that my fluff will have eyes on me tonight.... I wish. lol, good job and good luck with upcoming classes.

Ah, and don't worry about not heeling, mine doesn't listen to strangers either.... Nor does he eat food from strangers or drink strange water. He only chases strange dogs. Hmmm, I'd better get out the whistle and clicker for tonight.

Baby I am so sorry I am behind on this post, I feel terrible, I have been caught up with other stuff on the forum.
I am especailly interested in Poppy, (nothing to do with him being a lab of course. lol)
That is great that you went. I am sooooo happy to hear he did well. and I bet he loved every bit of that chocolate. Yes I know, typical labs. I have a donut right now...guess who's beside me...waiting...eyes....hunger....mum....just a little bit...pleeeeese. lol.
Tell us more of how poppy goes. One of my babies is in puppy class...she came first...that is Ellie and Wally's baby!!
