Help with Allergies
I have a mix hound that weighs around 30 pounds and has been going through a terrible ordeal, since January, 2006. She started with symptoms of immobility, sore feet, and finally blisters, which turned into sores and loss of hair. You could not touch her, it was like her joints and whole body was sore to the touch. Feet looked like hamburger meat. After cultures and tests and 2 months of eating nothing but Science Diet z/d food, (vet assumed it was food related), predisone and arthritis medicine, there was some improvement. Finally, Atopica 100 mg was given and it was like night and day after 2 rounds of this medicine. (15 pills each round) After about 2 weeks, fungus was still on her feet, so I took her to another doctor for a second opinion. He started a round of shots, that seem to really help her, but then, the symptoms started all over again, this time worse and the doctor was just stumped. He immediately started her on Atopica 50mg this time and we have done 3 rounds. It has been 3 weeks since she finished and is not on any meds at this time. I am holding my breath. I am looking for anyone that has had this happen to their pet and possibly some solutions to this matter. The 2nd vet seems to think it is contact dermatitis and does not feel it is food related, since she is now back on regular science diet food. He seems to think we will have to do this continually in the spring and summer months.
Thank you for any help in this matter |

Instead of feeding Science Diet you could try something that's a little better for allergy sufferers - somebody posted a list, I'll find that and post it.
I know that there are animal skin specialists - you could ask one of the vets to recommend you to see a skin specialist and see what they say. |
