older pup needs help

There is a pet store in my hometown (west des moines, IA) where they sell puppies There is one girl puppy, a purebred Cavalier King Charles that nobody wants. Nobody besides me that is. She went from being sold at $ 1,400 to being on "sale" for $800. I went and played with her from the time they first got her to just a few days ago when I went home over the week-end. I saw her go from the playfull pup to the calmer older pup. There are two or three other puppies with her that have been there just as long but she is the only one who really seems to be getting worse in spirit. She looks so sad now! I NEED to get here out of there before it kills her (or me) I constantly think about her. I just don't have $800. Or even half that. What can I do? She can't stay there. Besides stealing her (which I've seriously considered) I don't see a way out for her. I don't understand why no one wants her. She is small for her breed, about 15 lbs, and there is nothing physically wrong with her. what can I do to help her?

Could you put money down on her and offer the owner to work the rest off? I can tell stealing her is looking good to you, but forget it, it won't be worth the consequences. Maybe she has health issues that you didn't notice. Cavalier's aren't the healthiest of dogs under the best circumstances, many or most, have heart defects amongst other issues. I would try to talk to the owner about paying for her on time, if he isn't willing, the best thing would be to stay away from the shop and try to forget, not easy I know.

I would do that but I am a freshman in college, about 2 hours away from the pet shop. I tried staying away and I did for about 2 months and I was horrified when I took my 5 year old sister there to play with a pup that she was still there. Now I can't forget it. She was born at the beginning of janurary if I remember correctly. I wasn't really gonna steal her (just kinda thinking about it... ) I asked and as far as they told me she is healthy... I don't know...

Well I would suggest talkin to the pet store about maybe doing some kind of lawaway type deal? Put down a certain amount of money every week or month or something? That way it's not a huge lump sum all at once.

I'm not sure where pet shop pups go when they have lost there "retail" value,.I am sure however that as each month from here on out decreases her worth. I would suggest talking to the owner and see what will happen to her if she isn't sold soon and offer them a "deal". Your heart is in the right place, good luck.

I know you all are going to think I'm horrible, but I would leave her there..even if you did buy her that would be supporting buying a pet store puppy and the brokers and millers would just send more to replace her..

Its sad but its the truth..

I hope you can figure something out for that poor baby. Maybe you could borrow the money from someone who trusts you to pay it back and won't be in a hurry to get it back.

Jesika is right. You have to harden yourself to this pet store dog. I know it's easier said than done, but if you purchase this dog, you are only giving incentive to the breeder to keep em coming, and the pet store owner to keep supplying them in the store. Sure, you may be helping THIS puppy, but what about the next litter? Are you going to save them all too? You can't...the biggest thing you can do to help is just walk away and say a prayer that the best works out.

IF you did get her, your heartache could just be beginning. Milled puppies or byb puppies can have a myriad of health problems and temperament problems. Please check out one pet store purchased pup's story:

It's hard to walk away, I know, and it's why I do not go into pet stores that sell puppies. They prey on our weakness and use the puppies as bait to line their pockets.
