Throwing up dog

I gave the dogs a couple of bones this afternoon i bought at a pet store. Meka has not been herself since. Just the past hour she has been throwing up a bit. Nothing but water and mucus. She did eat dinner and go out to play. But now she is very inactive, and kinda dry heaving. Could there be a bone in her throat? Any ideas?

How often do they get bones? If they don't get bones very often, they may just be upseting her stomach. What kind of bones do you give? The only ones I recommend are Ground Rawhide(so no matter how big a bite the dog takes off,he will NOT choke);Nylabone,& Gumabone.

Before I'd guess that there is a bone in her throat I'd wonder if there was anything wrong with the bones and it just made her sick.. But the fact that you said she's throwing up mucus makes me wonder.. Have you opened her mouth and looked to see if you can see a piece of bone lodged in the back of the throat or on the roof of the mouth? Has she been coughing at all?

I'm no expert, I've never had a dog with a bone stuck in its mouth or throat before, but the mucous makes me wonder.. Unless I misunderstood what you mean by mucous..

Did you find the bones? Did they splinter? Or did the dogs completely eat them. See if she'll eat & poop normally. If no regular movement in 24 hours I would take in.

I will check in her mouth and throat. They ate 90% of the bones. The remainder is not splintered. She ate dinner, which was after the bones. I dont understand why she has not thrown up any food. They get bones often, it is nothing unusual.

Is it possible she threw up the food earlier and you haven't found it yet? I'd wait to see if she starts acting normal tommorrow. Watch for signs of distress. Whining, panting excessively, listlessness.

It might be a coincidence that the bones and not feeling well are happening now.

Its 4:30 am, I have been up of and on with her all night. There doesn't seem to be any distress signs. When I got up to come down stairs, she went tearing down the stairs nearly tripping me as usual. She sounds awful!!

Aw, I'm sorry Dobermom. How's Clifford reacting to them?

She may have thrown up her food when whe went out to play. Usually if she's not throwing up food, all the food is already gone. If the bones are different than the ones you usually give, store bought, have something else in them, it might have just made her sick (as pittie said). If there's nothing in her throat that you can see, and she's letting you look, I don't imagine that she's choking on anything.

Is that a good thing? Is she back to normal? Or Wheezing? If she is wheezing, I would take her in soon.

Well, everything seems to be ok. We went back to sleep, and when we got up she was still coughing a bit. I had the vet paged, by the time I searched the yard for p*k* she was her usual self, beating the snot out of Clifford. The vet suggested giving her a piece of bread, i guess to possibly grab the bone and pull it down. Long story short, I fed her a light breakfast and had to leave for the day. No p*k* in cage, and she is giving Clifford a run for his money. I really thought she was going to have to go in. A BIG THANKS to catalyst, she was on the forum in the wee hours to give me some support.
