lost weight

I have a female (not spayed) american bulldog that I adopted. I have had her all her life practically. She lost about 15 pounds last month and is still not gaining it back. She is active but not over active. She still acts the same she always has and nothing new came about in her life. I had her to the Vet and they ran all these tests. ALL came out negative. The vet said to feed her puppy food which I have been, however she is still 15-20 pounds under weight and it is really bothering me. She looks so skinny. Please if you have any advice or know what I can feed her let me know. I will do anything. have her on purina puppy chow now. She was on purina Dog until the Vet told me to switch her to puppy formula for the higher fat content. I give her two cans of food a day with the dry. Her activity level has not changed. No vomiting or diarrhea. The vet check her levels in her blood ( like her white blood count, CBC, etc...) to see about any infection there-negative. She did a stool sample- no worms. Heart worm test- negative. x-rays on her bowels and stomach- normal. She is on heart gaurd. Thats all

First what brand/formula of dog food do you feed? Does she have any symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea? Has her activity level changed recently? Is she on worm preventive? You said the vet did tests. What tests did they do? Did they check the thyroid?

Weight loss can be many things so we really need more information.

If all the tests have been made, including tyroid check and she is healthy, then I would put her on a better and richer food like Innova evo or Bark at the Moon from Solid Gold. Both are high in protein:42% and in fat 20%.It's what I feed my dog who is finicky, active and doesn't eat much.A bag is about 42dollars,but you feed him, half the amount so it's worth it.

I too, would switch her food to something with less fillers in it. puppy chow has a lot of corn in it and dogs can not process corn so it just goes right back out the other end after they eat it. Dogs also have to eat a lot more of that type of food to get the same nutrients as a higher quality food.

I like chicken soup for the dog lover's soul and it's not too expensive. especially when you consider that you don't have to feed as much every day. a bag of this food will last longer than a bag of purina.

hope that helps. please keep us updated on this and pics are always appreciated.
