Question Runny/Solid poo...... ?:(

Okay,I'm a little curious.I have to clean up the dog poo daily-it's not as bad as it sounds-cuz they eat such a rich food,if I don't THEY clean it up! Well, this past week I've noticed, that one day their poo is solid & the next it's runny. They haven't had any treats, bones, biscuits, changes in the diet or in their routine. They are eating normal, sleeping normal, playing normal & everything is normal.None of them seem stressed about anything. My first thought was 'WORMS' so I kept an eye on their poo & NO worms or parasites. I would like to know what is going on. It doesn't seem serious enough to go to the vet,cuz they are acting like their normal selves & they aren't having trouble going,it's jst runny sometimes.... Any idea as to what may be causing it?

It still could be a parasite, I don't think all parasites are visible in their stools.

Do you know if all of them are having the runny poop? Sometimes it's just one of them..
Could it be that the bag of dog food isn't so good? I would try getting a small bag of the same food and trying that for a couple of days, and see how they do. I know that dog food doesn't really 'spoil' but sometimes there is something not-so-good in a certain bag that just doesn't agree with them.

Sadie had runny poo, but wasn't acting different and she had coccidia. Its a parasite and it's not expensive to treat, but the vet said it can get very dangerous if not treated. Rip is right too it could just be that bag of food.

Yes it also could be giardia or coccidia, I didn't think of that.. Buster had Giardia years ago, I don't remember exactly how it is transmitted, though.. You might want to do a google search on it.

edit: here's a link I found on it.. http://www.priory.com/vet/giardia.htm

Both those things do have symptoms though, normally stomach ache, do they seem in pain at all? Normal eating anyway? Is there any grass in the poop?
I always have a variety of poop to clean up, even if they happen to have been swimming, the next day the poop will be runny.

I would let it go for a few days, see if it is just a general stomach bug first. If it is one of the others mentioned, the poop will not change, it will be continual till you get it looked at.
Just see if the poop goes back to normal, if not, then check with a vets.

I agree.... wait it out for a few days. Roslynd's poo changes a lot, it gets especially runny when she increases her exercise level... so this time of the year is really fun... all that hunting lends itself to some pretty icky poo-poo!!

I have met several dogs and my own are in that pack that have a nice solid poop which follows a short time later (within the hour) a second looser version. Non of the dogs are sick or being subject to diet changes. It goes into my file of one of those things. I believe it might be related to how much or how fast they eat.
