Sad,my dog has an liver infection!!!!
She had being throwing up for two days straight and i told mum there was something wrong but she said just wit til thursday and see if it is still happening and i did and it was still happening so on fri dad took her to the vet while i was at school and found out what was wrong and he had to buy all this medication and treatments!!!anyways i got home that arvo and said im taking shadow for a walk with my friend liani and mum said no shadow cant go anywhere and i asked why and she told me that she had a liver infection and i started saying no and crying cause i didnt want it to be happening and then i was told that if she spued that night she would have to go back to the vet the next day and be put on a drip for a few days and what not and i cried more and more as i found out(im 14)...and she has to have this special stuff put in her water then it has to disolve in hot water then 500mls cold water is put in and she has a few laps at a time n i have to take it away for a few secs and give it back to her until she finishes it and before she eats the special formulated food she has to have a tiny tablet to prevent her chucking and then eat then have a larger tablet after which is her antibiotic and she has to rest and not do anything til she is fully recovered but i told mum that there was something really wrong but she though it was a bug,my last cat dies at 18 on the 17th of April 2004 of kidney failure and he refused food and that is what my dog was doing and i thought she might have had kidney failure and have to be put down which she didnt have which was a huge relief and she hasnt had to be put on a drip or anything and because of the liver infection she cant control her bowes which means she has a bladder weakness while she is sick ans she urinated on the surgery floor at the vet and everything.....has anyone on here had a dog with a liver infevtion and what was the outcome of it.?

I am so sorry to hear this, hopefully it is nothing too serious; do you know whether the vet carried out a blood test? I wonder what she means by "liver infection"? Ask your father whether the vet has mentioned exactly what is wrong with your dog's liver...'leptospirosis' comes to mind but this is just a guess....I wish I could help you some more but it is hard without knowing for sure as there could be a multitude of things that can go wrong with the liver but don't despair as it may not be all that serious, the liver has the ability to regenerate providing it is getting the proper care.
Ask your dad whether they took some blood from your dog for testing...good luck and keep in touch. |
