Question horse shampoo for dog

hi! we've been using this certain horse shampoo (that can also be used by humans) in bathing cooper. it made his coat shiny. kinda like the mane and tail of a horse. *cough*
anyway, coops started having dandruff and i was wondering if you guys have had any experience with pet shampoo causing dandruff on a pet before?
it looks kinda bad on his black coat. plus hes probably uncomfortable (it itches, like in humans, 'no?)
any info would be appreciated. thanks a lot in advance
xoxo

If it has a harsh detergent or soap it will cause dry scaling skin.

There are dog shampoos that are hyper allegenic,it has no smell or additives in it,and is for dogs with sensitive skin.

I have used Mane and Tail horse shampoo on my dogs, it was fine.

You really should not shampoo your dog too often or you will dry out the skin. Also, like people, a dog can be allergic to certian shampoo's and soap so you may want to switch.

actually, we are using mane n tail. im just wary about name-dropping product brands

ive noticed that he seems to be losing weight. will be observing him for some more days (change his diet, etc.) if it doesnt work, then off to the vet we go.

ive always used my horse shampoo on my dogs, and never had any problems with it. i do know that over washing a dog can cause there skin to dry out, but it sounds as thou the product may not agree with him that well, i would consider switching brands personally

Losing weight and skin problems from shampoo are two different things.

Take your dog to the vet ASAP.

The reason that people can use Main and Tail shampoos is because a horses main and tail are "hair" not fur. Hair and fur have different PH values and hair health is not as dependant on fatty acids as dog fur is. There are only a few breeds that truely have hair (I believe yorkies are on of these).

The shampoo may be stripping needed oils from his coat and skin, thus causing the dandruff. I would recommend switching to something rich in fatty acids (avocado shampoos are good for this) to help replenish the moisture in the coat.

As for the weight loss - as previously stated not due to shampoo and a vet visit is in order.
